Rich Rodriguez, players are frustrated; trying to turn things around

By Kaleb Roedel

With three straight Big Ten losses hanging over its head, the Michigan football team is visibly frustrated. Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, senior defensive tackle Greg Banks, sophomore safety Jordan Kovacs and -- an especially discouraged -- junior offensive lineman David Molk talked about how they plan to get back on track at Monday's press conference.

Our guys aren't getting it becauwe they are not allowed to practice at will any more. They have strict limits now, that most other teams do not concern themse4lves with. The haters have succeeded in limiting what we can accomplish. We are fighting an uphill battle in a soap box derby.

@TruBlu: Bo refers to that in his last book (w/John Bacon) as practicing until you get it right. In one of the chapters, he referred to the notion of getting the team ready to make a 4th down special teams switch so that there were no sub infractions, and that players needed to know exactly where to be on the sideline and when to go in. He indicated that if you practice situations enough during the week against truly great competition, then the games are automatic and easy in comparison. I have been complaining about this for RR's duration, over the dumb penalties, over the noncorrected mistakes. Football is a human game, and there will be great individual performances, great team performances, and human mistakes. That's what makes it fun. But when you see the same thing over and over, it speaks of coaching, IMO. And it hasn't been pretty. How many times did PSU run screen passes right past our rushing D-line? 7 or 8? You can tell that they were not prepared, nor did they adjust. That play alone probably gained 120 yards of PSU's total offense.

On the plus side, these are all very well spoken players that all belong in a university. On the negative side, I'm not at all sure what cures an inability to 'read' a game situation...(Molk quote)
