SI.com's Stewart Mandel grades Michigan's hire of Brady Hoke an A-minus; Greg Mattison's experience to be tested with Wolverines and more
Michigan football coach Brady Hoke is one of 21 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches or coordinators who've changed programs since the end of the regular season.
Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated submits his report card of the hirings. The Wolverines' hire of Hoke received an A-minus. Only two hires received an A, one of them a Big Ten opponent: Indiana's hiring of Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.
Mandel writes, "Anyone that can win 12 games at Ball State and make San Diego State relevant again know how to build a program."

I love it D21, how come I'm not getting more votes for my suggestion post? I needs me votes lads! @D21, is Desmond your favorite UM player of all time? Hence the screen name? Mine are Anthony Carter, Desmond and Woodson Whoever referred to Theo as T212, it made me think of a Star Wars Android for some reason

A2 censored my posting poking sweet innocent fun at Theo and C-3PO or was it due to my bad grammar? :) Mick, My D21 handle is more about Detroit than Desmond and like you, Desmond is one of my all time Wolverine favs. Also, you got my vote, too and Blu-Tpa got it right about Theo getting somewhat popular in here. I suspect Theo is either a friend of or one of the A2.com which explains the no or zero red slashing policy on Theo

I think that under the circumstances, a (subjective) 'A- hire' for our new HC is outstanding.

I agree Blu, how does a guy who hasn't been a head coach get a better grade than a guy who's repaired two programs and seems like he's gonna be a monster recruiter @ a program like UM's? BTW,I think we have to come up with a new term to describe Theo's postings. My suggestion would be, "That's just Theo Bein' Theo".

Ok, so What? While I'm sure the fact that Indiana got the OC from Oklahoma is a big deal for them, he wasn't the head coach, and he's going to find it difficult to find UOk type players at IU. Mandel goes on the state that Brady Hoke turned two traditional doormat football programs around as the head coach. Given the conditions at Michigan, and the need for a 180 degree change of direction especially on defense and special teams, this would appear to be a perfect fit. With two positon coaches to go, Coach Hoke has put together a group that has everybody buzzing on how Michigan will be able to go after recruits, even this late in the process. I said it before, Michigan, with a late surge right up to signing day, can still get into the top 25 recruiting for 2011.

I hope we can soon get a slow-footed, dropback qb. THAT is how football should be played.
