Tavelyn James breaks her own EMU scoring record
Tavelyn James
James hit the both ends of a one-and-one free throw opportunity with 23 seconds left at Alumni Arena, making her the first EMU women's basketball player to score 40 points in a game. She broke her own school record of 39 points, set Dec. 9 against Rochester College.
Junior Sydney Huntley added 22 points off the bench for the Eagles (16-5, 6-3) and the defense forced Buffalo (6-16, 2-7) into 21 turnovers resulting in 31 points.
EMUEagles.com reports that James is just the seventh EMU student-athlete to eclipse the 40-point plateau. The last was Earl Boykins, who scored 45 against Western Michigan in 1998.
