Tavelyn James scores 29 points, EMU women's basketball wins 63-53 at Ohio
Senior guard Tavelyn James scored 29 points and the Eastern Michigan women’s basketball team won its third straight game, 63-53 at Ohio, on Wednesday night.
Sophomores Olivia Fouty (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Natachia Watkins (10 points, 10 rebounds) each added double-doubles for the Eagles (15-7, 7-2 MAC West).
Fouty scored back-to-back baskets in the post to give the Eagles a 57-48 lead with 2:16 left to play. James iced the win by going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 51 seconds.
Eastern Michigan took a quick 14-4 lead by holding the Bobcats without a basket for the first eight minutes of the game. Ohio pulled within one point late in the first half, but EMU went on a 9-3 run over the final 5:18 of the half to lead 33-26 at halftime.
Tenishia Benson led Ohio (10-13, 3-6) with 15 points.
James moved into fourth place on the all-time MAC scoring list with her performance.
Eastern Michigan remains tied with Toledo atop the MAC West standings. The Rockets (14-7, 7-2) beat Akron 71-60 on Wednesday.
