One out of two isn't bad, right? Heck, the Detroit Tigers sure wish they had batted close to .500 with runners in scoring position.

Instead, the Tigers went 1 for 12 in those key situations during Game 2 of the American League Championhip Series and Nelson Cruz made them pay with a game-ending grand slam in the 11th inning to give the Texas Rangers a 7-3 win Monday and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

But forlorn Detroit fans quickly perked up.

The Lions earned a split on one of the most significant Detroit professional sports days in decades by beating the Chicago Bears 24-13 on Monday Night Football. Calvin Johnson caught his NFL-leading ninth touchdown and Jahvid Best rushed for 163 yards, including an 88-yard touchdown -- the second-longest in franchise history -- and the Lions are undefeated through five games for the first time since 1956.

How exciting was the vibe in Detroit? Even the city's traditional championship contenders -- the Red Wings -- spent their day off soaking it all in.
