Tigers' Joel Zumaya lost for the year, Pistons won't be a free agent player and more
Joel Zumaya was writhing in pain, fearing his major league career was over.
The Tigers' reliever was on the ground, feeling like someone had taken a hammer and shattered his elbow.
Zumaya learned Tuesday he will miss the remainder of the season, marking the fourth consecutive year he will miss significant time due to an injury.
“I know it’s going to take four months to heal,” he said. “It’s not 12 months. I’m a hardworking guy. I won’t give up."
Tuesday proved to be just as disappointing for Tigers pitchers Armando Galarraga and Fu-Te Ni, who were both roughed up in an 11-4 loss to Minnesota.
