Tigers pitching solid, hitting sorry in loss to Rays; Will Lions' Matthew Stafford make the leap? and more
By Kaleb Roedel
Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander and now Rick Porcello have fallen victim to the Detroit Tigers inability to complement starting pitching with significant hitting during its four-game stint against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Even Tigers' manager Jim Leyland felt Porcello did all he could in Detroit's 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay Thursday afternoon. The Rays completed a four-game sweep of the Tigers.
""I thought (Porcello) threw extremely well today," Leyland said. "He got in on some guys, and they had some bad swings on him. I was really pleased with him today.
"Once again, we didn't muster much offense."
