Two blogs that cover University of Michigan sports will merge

By Pete Bigelow

Two prominent blogs that cover University of Michigan sports announced Friday afternoon they will merge, according to posts on both sites.

umvarsityblue.com and mgoblog.com will join forces in a move that all writers involved hope allows them to stick to writing about what they consider their strengths. The move will take effect Monday, according to umvarsityblue.

For mgoblog writer Brian Cook, that means sticking to analysis -- much of which has been some of the most interesting work of anyone on the Michigan beat in recent years.

"I've spent four years developing an expertise that has nothing to do with the tasks commonly associated with sports journalism. That expertise has propelled this blog to a living," Cook writes in today's post explaining the move.

The Varsity Blue writers, who will migrate to mgoblog.com, explain their decision in this post titled "End of the road."

This is what I'm talking about! Welcome to the web Ann Arbor News, this post is an excellent step in the new age of media direction. Be one with the Internet. Show respect for the work done by the Michigan blogosphere (because us M fans sure do), be promiscuous with you links, and tell us something we don't know/haven't heard before, and you'll do just fine.
