Two CCHA playoff series complete, Sunday's Bowling Green-Northern Michigan game determines Michigan's quarterfinal opponent
Lake Superior State and Notre Dame completed sweeps of Alaska and Ohio State, respectively, on Saturday to close out two of three CCHA tournament first-round series.
That leaves a Game 3 between Bowling Green and Northern Michigan at 7:35 p.m. Sunday to determine the Michigan hockey team's quarterfinal opponent.
If Bowling Green wins at Northern Michigan, the Wolverines will host Notre Dame in a best-of-three series beginning Friday at Yost Ice Arena. If Northern Michigan wins, Michigan will play Lake Superior State.
Michigan is the No. 2 seed in the tournament and plays the second-lowest remaining seed after the first-round games. No. 1 seed Ferris State gets the lowest seed.
The winners of the four quarterfinal series head to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for semifinal games on Friday, March 16. The third place and championship games will be played Saturday, March 17, at JLA.
The Wolverines recorded up a 4-2 win and 2-2 tie against Lake Superior State in early January, losing a shootout after the tie.
Michigan split two games at Notre Dame in late January, losing 3-1 and winning 2-1.
