Consensus on Michigan basketball: Look out next year

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Less than 24 hours after the end of the Michigan basketball team's season, the Wolverines, media members and fans all have agreed on one thing.

Just wait until next year.

With the Wolverines likely returning all their key players, another NCAA tournament run should come as no surprise. In fact, the expectations are already building for a dream season. Here's a look at what's been said:

trigg7--You call MSU an elite team? Michigan beat them twice, so we're the elite team! I think you should be more concerned about all the trouble the MSU football and basketball teams have been in. Do I hear a hint of jealousy? Izzo is still whining and crying.

John Beilein doesn't Necessarily need top 100 players ! He is a great teacher of the game (32plus yrs of experience) and gets the best out of the players abilities..i.e. Tim Jr. wasn't a top100 recruit ,even though he was scoring 30 pts a game in high school, not many top div1 coaches recruited him. Unlike msu/izzo if a player doesn't see it the izzo way, they get down played, bench,or threw off the team! I know other coaches that have student athletes that have played for izzo, and they say he's a pr$$k ..you get in his dog house ,you can kiss your playing time goodbye... JB lets them play with their own swagger and style within his overall system, and that seems to be working quite well... GO BLUE..

Undefeated????? indeeed. don't hold your breath.what if there is a legal problem or 3?what if a couple of key players get injured and are out for an extended period?sometimes shooters go cold and if it happens to several at one time the team is in trouble.sooner or later they're going to play the better teams, regular season and/or tournament and it's not the same as playing the not so good.referees have a way of changing the complection of a game---whistle while u work.as the games mount up other teams figure out how to play against them.all an opponent has to do is stay with them until late in the game and then strange things can happen. so DON'T beat the drums Quite Yet Blue Brains

I love this team - they're smart & Tenacious (with a capital 'T'). They were a joy to watch and I'm more than excited about next season, because they truly play with heart & value the whole team (vs. the superstar with a supporting cast). Even usually negative newspaper pundits had to give them props...and Rumpelstiltskin Izzo could only hang his head (poor baby). Go Blue!!

Burke and Brundidge are good players but they are guards. The team is still loaded with guards, Morris, Douglass, Novak, Hardaway Jr, etc and all are coming back next year. This team needs a big man one and done ala Jared Sullinger to make a serious run for the final four lol!

Didn't beat one quality team all year. Anyone can play when they have nothing to lose. State kicked off a quality player and had another transfer. Not to mention 5 players had injuries. But go ahead and get your hopes up,your still light years from the elite MSU,OSU,WIKY,PD. You always have the flop 5.Why the U would drag out the biggest $$$ scam in NCAA history is beyond me.

Put very eloquently and intelligently as always. I'll stack up Michigan basketball's quality kids with any in the Big Ten, and that especially includes the other in-state school. Yes, the one that keeps kicking players off their teams or suspending them for getting in trouble with the law.

MSU lost to UCLA by a few points. UM lost to Duke by a few points. Big difference right there.

Sorry that we don't have a bunch of under performing players on our roster like MSU does. I feel really bad that Izzo had to kick Allen and Lucious off of the team for drug use. Clearly, he didn't draw the line with raping a college coed as handled by Appling and Payne. MSU is spiraling down. Hope you enjoyed your past glory years and your brief appearance in the NCAA tourney this year. Now go get me my pizza.

Oh, and we also swept Penn St...the team that whacked you out of the B10 tourney and beat you 2 out of 3.

No, but we did beat your team twice and played the three remaining number one seeds (OSU - three times, Kansas, Duke) to the wire EVERY SINGLE TIME we played them. For a young team that was picked to finish last, that's pretty darn impressive. And we won our first round tourney game by 30...how'd your team do? And by the way, if you want to call your team elite, then we DID beat a quaity team...right? Or do you not make sense even to yourself...

i agree the second half of the season was great. the first half everyone want to fire him. i say great finish and lets see what they do next year. they need a big man. i say they will end up better than this year. how much is still unknown. i think they will do about 3rd or 4th in the big ten. will go to the ncaa and do well. then maybe we can get a top 100 player.

FYI - Depending upon the recruiting service used, Morris, Hardaway, Smotrycz, and Brundige are all top 100 players.
