Former Michigan basketball player Dommanic Ingerson was taken by police to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation on Wednesday after swimming naked across Lake Merritt in California, The Oakland Tribune reports.

Ingerson, 26, swam 400 yards across the lake. He wore black trunks when he entered the water but was naked when he emerged from the lake, police said. Ingerson, who played at Michigan in the 2001-2002 season and averaged 8.1 points per game in 29 games, also is suspected of stealing from two women in downtown Oakland, the paper reported.
