Former Michigan forward DeShawn Sims to play for Portsmouth Sports Club next week

By Michael Rothstein

The first stop in DeShawn Sims' professional career will allow him to see some faces that, if things had gone different, could have joined him at Michigan.

When Sims plays for Portsmouth Sports Club next week in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Virginia, he'll be joined by former Notre Dame point guard Tory Jackson and West Virginia guard Da'Sean Butler.

Jackson had considered Michigan before choosing the Irish four years ago, where he went on to be a four-year starter. Butler played for current Michigan coach John Beilein during his freshman year at West Virginia.

The three will play together, barring any last-minute changes, in Portsmouth. They'll be joined by one of the stars of the NCAA tournament, St. Mary's forward Omar Samhan, and Kansas State guard Denis Clemente, among others.

Sims' first game will be Wednesday at 9 p.m. against K&D Rounds Landscaping, which features Wisconsin guard Trevon Hughes, Cornell forward Ryan Wittman and Xavier forward Jason Love.

The Big Ten players scheduled to be in Portsmouth are Sims, Hughes and Minnesota's Lawrence Westbrook.
