Former Michigan guard Manny Harris says he'll play for the Cleveland Cavaliers
Manny Harris is a Cleveland Cavalier.
The former Michigan basketball guard posted on Twitter early this afternoon that new Cavs coach Byron Scott told the guard he made the season-opening roster.
“Was just told by coach Scott that I made the team,” Harris tweeted. “Thanks for all y’all support.”
Harris signed with Cleveland after going undrafted in June’s two-round NBA Draft. An ankle injury kept him from playing with the Cavs’ summer league team, but throughout training camp he impressed Cleveland’s coaches.
Harris, who led Michigan in scoring last season as a junior, played in five preseason games for Cleveland, averaging 19.6 minutes and 9.8 points. He also shot 50 percent from the field (14 of 28) and 57.1 percent from the 3-point line (4 of 7) -- an area he struggled with last year with Michigan.
The Detroit native’s position with Cleveland looked better in recent days after the team cut Danny Green, who was thought to be competing with Harris for a roster spot.
Cleveland plays its final exhibition game tonight against Milwaukee in Columbus. The Cavs open the season against Boston on Oct. 27.

Manny was a class guy when he was in A2 representing the school and the team. The kids on the team now, and the coach, are also class people. The team is young and being built. Don't rip the team as a way to support Manny. That's just chicken-____.

The Cav's have lost a lot over the off season with no real opportunity to get free agents, so good for Manny. Hopefully he gets a shot to prove himself.
