How do you think Mitch McGary will do as a college freshman?

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Mitch McGary, one of the top college basketball recruits in the nation, said Thursday he will sign a letter of intent with Michigan.

What's your predicition for how McGary, a 6-foot-10 power forward, will do as a college freshman?

I'd say anyone who thinks McGary will just be a "solid freshman, nice role player, with a few big games" hasn't seen video's of him playing. He'll be a starter and a huge part of our offense from day one (barring any kind of injury). It's very rare to see a player of his size and strength with so much agility, high motor, and ball-handling ability. None of the players I've seen come in here in the last 20 years compare except probably Webber. This will solve Michigan's problem for at least 1 or 2 years of not having a serious low-post threat. Given our probable strong perimeter game, Michigan will be a very tough team to play with a Mitch McGary. Can't wait.

He will be a freshman in 2012 and will go through adjustment like every freshman. This year's team still matters as the backcourt will be very young and front court is learning to play big. Will new leaders to emerge after Zack and Stu (possibly losing Hardy as well). Temper the excitement, folks and start your prediction AFTER this season.
