Michigan basketball to host North Carolina State in 2012 ACC/Big Ten Challenge

By Nick Baumgardner

The Michigan basketball program will be staying at home this season for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

It'll also have its hands full.

ESPN announced Monday that the Wolverines will play host to North Carolina State in the 14th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The game will be played at the Crisler Center on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

In ESPN.com's "way too early" Top 25 rankings, Michigan is slotted at No. 5, and N.C. State sits one spot back at No. 6.

The Wolfpack will have big man C.J. Leslie back from last season's Sweet 16 club, and will also welcome in one of the top recruiting classes in the country -- led by five-star shooting guard Rodney Purvis.

It'll mark the sixth meeting all-time between the two programs, with the Wolfpack currently holding a 3-2 edge in the series. N.C. State won the last matchup, 74-67 over the Wolverines during the 2006 ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Raleigh, N.C.

The Big Ten won the event for a third straight season a year ago, no thanks to Michigan. The Wolverines fell on the road to Virginia, 70-58.

All-time, Michigan is 4-7 in the challenge. The Wolverines have lost five of their last six in the event.

The remainder of the challenge schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, Nov. 27
Minnesota at Florida State
North Carolina at Indiana
Maryland at Northwestern
Iowa at Virginia Tech
Nebraska at Wake Forest

Wednesday, Nov. 28
Purdue at Clemson
Ohio State at Duke
Georgia Tech at Illinois
Michigan State at Miami (Fla.)
Boston College at Penn State
Virginia at Wisconsin

Along with the home tilt against N.C. State, Michigan also has confirmed 2012-13 non-conference dates with West Virginia, Bradley and Arkansas.

Michigan will play the Mountaineers on Dec. 15 in the first ever Brooklyn Winter Hoops Festival, which will be held at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Wolverines will travel to Bradley to complete a home-and-home series and also host Arkansas during a return matchup from a year ago.

Additionally, Michigan is expected to take part in the 2012 Preseason NIT alongside the likes of Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Virginia and others.

The final pairings for the Preseason NIT have not officially been announced.
