Michigan basketball picks up its second commitment for 2011

By Michael Rothstein

The Michigan basketball team may be in Europe, but that doesn't mean the Wolverines have stopped recruiting.

Michigan picked up its second commitment from the Class of 2011 on Tuesday when Columbus, Ohio, guard Trey Burke selected the Wolverines according to UMHoops.com.

Burke, a 6-foot-1 point guard, initially gave a verbal commitment to Penn State, but backed out earlier this summer.

Burke is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and picked Michigan over Cincinnati. He is the No. 136 player nationally according to Rivals and was the No. 22 point guard in the country according to Scout.com.

His commitment gives Michigan two guards in its 2011 class, including Carlton Brundidge of Southfield.

An e-mail sent to Burke's father, Benji, seeking confirmation of the commitment was not immediately returned to AnnArbor.com.

No knock on the kid but when is JB going to bring in a 5 star top ten player or two. Michigan is never going to challenge for a final four with recruiting going the way it has the last few years. Last year was a typical finish for the level of talent we have. Hopefully Mr. Brandon will want to upgrade soon.

At least this commit addresses our problems handling the ball. However, we still have a big inside-player that can rebound and block shots vacuum.
