Michigan basketball team to play in 2010 Legends Classic in Atlantic City

By Michael Rothstein

The Michigan basketball team is one of four teams scheduled to play Nov. 26-27 in the 2010 Legends Classic at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

The 12-team tournament will have two rounds at Crisler Arena with teams to be determined. Michigan will automatically advance to the “championship round” with current Big East champion Syracuse, Conference USA champ UTEP and Georgia Tech out of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The other teams in Michigan’s “region” will come from a pool of Albany, Bowling Green, Detroit, Gardner-Webb, Mercer, Niagara, Western Carolina and William & Mary.

Tickets go on sale at noon Thursday through Ticketmaster.

The last day of the tournament coincides with the Michigan-Ohio State football game in Columbus.

In its exempt tournament this year, the Old Spice Classic, Michigan went 1-2, beating Creighton before losing to Marquette and Alabama. Syracuse has won its last two exempt tournaments, the 2008 CBE Classic and the 2009 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Florida won the 2009 Legends Classic, beating then-No. 2 Michigan State and Rutgers.

Huh? Michigan State did the same thing last fall- wound up playing Florida and getting their butt kicked in my Eddie Munster's gang. I give props to Coach B for moving program into early season opportunity. See if they can re-earn "Legend" status for Wolverine basketball.
