Michigan basketball team will play 4 exhibition games in Europe in late August

The Michigan basketball team will play four exhibition games in a nine-day trip to Europe in late August, the university announced today.

Incoming freshmen Tim Hardaway Jr., Evan Smotrycz, Jon Horford and Colton Christian will be part of Michigan's 13-player roster. The NCAA allows teams to take foreign trips once every four years. Teams taking foreign trips also are allowed an extra 10 days of practice.

The schedule:

Aug. 20: Depart for Amsterdam Aug. 22: vs. Gent in Brussels, Belgium Aug. 23: vs. Leuven in Brussels, Belgium Aug. 24: Tour Paris Aug. 25: vs. Oostende in Belgium Aug. 26: vs. Mons in Belgium Aug. 27: Tour Amsterdam

Great idea. If you can't play post season - play a preseason. Should be a great experience for the players.

I wonder I don't see other teams taking advantage of this. Glad Beilein knows the rules well.

10 days of extra practice are going to be very important to this team this fall. there'll be a lot of freshman on the court....
