Michigan, Eastern Michigan women's basketball teams pick up wins

CANCUN, Mexico -- Senior guard Veronica Hicks scored 17 points to lead the Michigan women's basketball team to a 67-51 win over Buffalo in the first round of the Cancun Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night.

Sophomore Sam Arnold came off the bench to contribute 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Wolverines (3-2), who led 34-24 at halftime.

Buffalo (2-3) scored the game's first basket, but never led again. The Bulls did make a second-half run, pulling within 41-34 with 13:49 to play. But Carman Reynolds hit a pair of 3-pointers and Kate Thompson added to a 10-0 run with another 3-pointer to help the Wolverines regain control.

Michigan wraps up its Mexico trip by playing No. 8-ranked Texas A&M at Kuchil Baxal Gymnasium in Cancun at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.

MORE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Eastern Michigan 66, Cornell 41: Junior Paige Redditt scored a game-high 16 points and the Eagles (4-2) rolled to a non-conference win at the Convocation Center. Junior guard Tavelyn James and senior guard Sydney Huntley added 12 points apiece for Eastern. Cornell (1-4) got 12 points from sophomore Clare Fitzpatrick. Eastern shot 41.1 percent from the field and forced 23 Cornell turnovers.
