Michigan women's basketball team beats Iowa State, 56-49

By Joseph Tobianski

The Michigan women’s basketball team used a big second-half run to overcome Iowa State on Sunday.

Senior guard Courtney Boylan, who finished with a game-high 17 points in the Wolverines’ 56-49 victory, started the key Michigan rally and wrapped up the win by going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:03.

Iowa State led the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge game 37-32 nine minutes into the second half. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Boylan and Rachel Scheffer sparked a 14-1 run that turned the game in Michigan’s favor in front of a season-high attendance of 2,573 at Crisler Arena.

Kate Thompson’s second three-point play of the half made it 43-37 and a 3-pointer by Sam Arnold gave Michigan its largest lead of the game, 46-38, with 3:43 left.

Thompson finished with 15 points for the Wolverines (8-1) while Jenny Ryan contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Sunday was the fourth straight game Boylan has led the Wolverines in scoring and the ninth straight time she’s reached double-digit scoring totals.

Hallie Christofferson had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Iowa State (4-2).
