Michigan women's basketball team misses out on NCAA tournament

By Michael Rothstein

The Michigan women's basketball team, which had been sitting on the bubble for most of the season, saw its NCAA tournament dreams end Monday evening.

The Wolverines were not among the 64 teams selected for the national championship tournament, but that doesn't mean their season is over.

Michigan, which finished 17-13 and 8-10 in the Big Ten, could be picked for the WNIT, That bracket comes out later tonight.

The Wolverines have also applied to host games at Crisler Arena if selected to be a WNIT team. It'd be the second time in three years Michigan will have gone to the WNIT under third-year coach Kevin Borseth after a five-year postseason drought.

The WNIT has expanded to 64 teams this season.

Hosting Kent State on Friday. In the same portion of the bracket as Northwestern, a team that's likely a major reason Michigan isn't in the real tournament.

Suzy Merchant would have been a good hire. NCAA tourney looks better than WNIT. Another great hire. 3 years and the Not Invited Tournament is it. BB purgatory is what Michigan is in for ever and ever it seems.
