The University of Michigan women's basketball enjoyed being ranked for the first time in more than a decade last week. The Wolverines are on the rise again, climbing to No. 23 in this week's poll after winning its only game last week, a 67-53 win over Northwestern on the road.

This week's poll has the Wolverines ranked No. 23, up two spots from where they were last week. The Wolverines moved ahead of No. 24 Iowa State and Kansas (previously ranked No. 23) fell out of the rankings. Michigan State moved into the rankings at No. 25. There are now four Big Ten teams in the top 25 with Penn State staying at No. 8 and Purdue falling from No. 12 to No. 15.

Baylor remains No. 1 for a third straight week after two easy victories.

Michigan has yet to beat a ranked opponent this season, but will have the opportunity on Monday when it hosts Penn State at the Crisler Center (6:30 p.m. Big Ten Network).

They gave it a nice try tonight, but the jumper wasn't falling for Kate Thompson (she didn't take any bad shots, she simply didn't have the touch) and that little point guard of theirs took over the game after the Wolverines made a great run and got every other key Lion in serious foul trouble. I think they're ranked about right. Seems like they're about one player short of being a serious conference contender. A power forward who can drive to the basket and hold her own with the big bodies. Right now, they live and die with the 3-ball. That freshman point guard, Ristovski - she's going to be a good one. Arico can build around her and Elmblad after pretty much everyone graduates this spring.

Both mens and womens from both UM and MSU basketball teams are ranked. Look out Indiana and Kentucky, the state of Michigan knows something about hoops too.
