Rachel Sheffer scores 25 as Michigan women's basketball team tops Illinois State

By Melanie Maxwell

Junior center Rachel Sheffer scored a career-high 25 points Thursday as the Michigan women's basketball team beat visiting Illinois State, 76-59.

Michigan is 11-2, the best start in program history and it opens Big Ten Conference action Dec. 30 at Illinois.

Sheffer, named the Wolverines' most improved player after her freshman and sophomore seasons, was 10-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Sheffer said junior guard Jenny Ryan was the primary reason scoring came easy for her against Illinois State.

"Jenny had 12 assists," Sheffer told MGoBlue.com. "She was a big part of it. She found me, so I just laid it in."
