Dunn lists Raleigh, N.C. as his home town and graduated from and coached at George Mason from 1977-83, then at West Virginia from 2003-07.
In between, Dunn was an assistant at Penn State from 1983-95 and then head coach of the Nittany Lions from 1995-2003.
Dunn, through a Michigan spokesman, declined to comment on the report.
Dunn took a leave of absence for “personal reasons” in December and was replaced in a coaching role by Jeff Meyer. When Dunn returned, he was placed in an administrative role for the rest of the season.
According to the Star News report, UNCW - which plays in the CAA - is also looking at Citadel head coach Ed Conroy and Vermont head coach Mike Lonergan.
At Penn State, Dunn was 117-121 as a head coach and led the Nittany Lions to the Sweet 16 in 2000-01.
