Team USA wins U19 World Championships opener, Tim Hardaway Jr. scores seven points
Seven players scored in double figures as the USA Basketball team routed Egypt, 115-60, in its opening game of the FIBA U19 World Championships.
Michigan sophomore Tim Hardaway Jr. scored seven points and doled out four assists for Team USA, which led 25-5 by the end of the first quarter in Liepaja, Latvia on Thursday.
As was the case in Team USA’s two exhibition games, Hardaway came off the bench but saw plenty of action. His 22 minutes of playing time was exceeded only by Creighton’s Doug McDermott, who scored a game-high 19 points for Team USA.
Joe Jackson (Memphis) and Jeremy Lamb (UConn) scored 15 points apiece and Leonard Meyers (Illinois) added 11. Keith Appling (Michigan State), Anthony Brown (Stanford) and Khyle Marshall (Butler) each scored 10 points.
Team USA continues its preliminary round play against Serbia at 9 a.m. Friday.
