Travis Conlan joins Michigan basketball team in administrative assistant role

By AnnArbor.com Staff

A former Wolverine is re-joining the Michigan basketball team.

Michigan coach John Beilein announced Monday that Travis Conlan, who played for U-M from 1995 to 1998, accepted a position as the team's administrative assistant.

"We are very pleased to bring Travis Conlan back into the Michigan basketball family," Beilein said in a written statement. "From my first meeting with Travis two years ago, I sensed he had a bright future after his playing days had ended. We love the passion he has for this university and this state and know he will bring that same drive with his day-to-day activities.

"Travis will wear many hats for us in the months and years ahead. He will work directly with me on a daily basis and on various special projects. He will also be responsible for our alumni relations, community service, future scheduling and facility management. In addition, I know he is looking forward to serving as the director of our many camps and clinics."

A native of St. Clair Shores, Conlan was the team's captain during his junior and senior years. He played in 124 career games and finished his career ranked third all-time in steals with 167.

After graduating from U-M with his bachelor's degree in communications, Conlan had a 12-year professional basketball career playing with 11 different teams throughout the United States, England, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Poland.

This is a very good move. Conlan was a tough player, stayed 4 years, and was a captain for two of those years. Plus, he's had some good basketball experience for the last 12. I'd say he'll move into a roll as a full-fledged assistant coach before too long. Welcome back Travis!

Good stuff, Mr. Beilein!! The more good guys you can bring back, like Travis and earlier, the better. UofM is in bad need of resurrecting and resstablishing its traditions, commitment to the student athlete and honesty. Beilein is the right guy for that and I hope he gets the winning program right along with it--I am betting on him before I would bet on the other fellow from West Virginia!
