Analysts pick newcomer Nebraska to win Big Ten Legends Division football title
By AnnArbor.com Staff
Big Ten Network football analysts Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith made their post-spring practice predictions, picking their top three teams in the Big Ten’s new Leaders and Legends divisions.
Both expect league newcomer Nebraska to win the Legends Division title, with DiNardo putting Michigan (“Improved defense and Denard Robinson”) at No. 3.
Do you agree? See the video and pick your own Legends Division winner in our poll:

It's a no brainer - 11-1 Michigan vs 10-2 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championships...Nebraska will be in for a Big Ten Blue Surprise. 7-5 ohio state and 8-4 michigan state can only sit home and wonder and wish things weren't back to normal at Wolverine Nation. MgoBlueForTiM......

No way Nebraska is going to walk in and take the Legends. They are overrated and have had huge losses on defense. Michigan wins the Legends.... mark it down I said it first (down).... Hoke is It. TIM Go Blue!

trigg7... "You need a QB"...REALLY? M needs a QB other than the one who last year as a sophomore, passed for over 2500 yards and ran for another 1700 yards, being the ONLY QB IN NCAA HISTORY to do that? It'll be interesting to see what he does with a more experienced O - line this year. My guess is that the offense, which was one of only two in the nation to average over 230 yards both rushing and passing (Oregon being the other..decent company to say the least) WILL be somewhat better, as they are also returning talented and seasoned RBs and receivers; and with even a modestly improved defense, they will be more competitive in games such as those you mentioned, in which their defense basically disappeared at times. GO BLUE !

mr trigg 7-----'pride goeth before the fall' is that similar to having four of your barechested / addle brained best line up with numbers emblazoned to suggest how long it's been since you were beaten by the leadersandbest? how did that scheme go for you ?

M will not be much beter, you need a QB, and we all saw how that turned out against the top teams, MSU, OSU, WISKY. Add another loss with Nebraska, and your back where you belong, on the bottom. Maybe Mike Hart can give a speach to fire M up! Pride before the fall.

Mick, I don't know what you're drinking (smoking?), but you must share! Ten (10) wins? That means going into the last two games vs Neb and tsio, Michigan has to be 9-1 at least, then split those last two somehow. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to state that the "D" will be better, even much better, next season. But with a new offense comes the dreaded turnovers. Even though Michigan wasn't so hot in that category last season either, taking care of the ball when people aren't on the same page, literally, usually is a game changer. 8 wins would be a good first step. Anything more, CotY awards might be in order. Let's win the first game and go from there. TiM Go Blue!

Well, since these predictions never turn out--I pick Michigan to lose all of its games and get the #1 draft pick next year. Wait, this isn't the Lions board? Oh, well, I think Michigan will be improved across the board and should challenge for the championship of B10. Defense will be more fundamental (barring injuries) and offense will be more balanced and tougher to defend. With the receivers that we have, should be an interesting passing game. Also, ability to keep DR in the games will make it tougher on opponents, since the plan appears to run him less and absorb less punishment. But, ah, this is only May and there is a lot of time to go so we don't know anything yet!! Go blue.

You heard it here first: . The offense will score fewer points than in 2010, but will be better in 2012- . The defense will allow fewer points than in 2010, but will be better in 2012. . The team, the team, ther team will win more regular season games than in 2010, but will be better in 2012. . Potential losses: TSIO, NEB, the Idiots Out Wandering Around (IOWA), plus one other wildcard TBD.

Interesting poll. I'm obviously a homer, but the chances of this team winning its division are very small. The defense will be mediocre, which is an improvement, but the formerly-explosive offense will more than make up for any defensive improvement by also becoming mediocre. Mattison is an excellent DC, but he can't snap his fingers and turn these kids into a first-rate defense this year. The schedule is easy enough that they should win 8 games, but I don't think a 5-3 or 6-2 conference record, which is probably their ceiling, is going to win the division. Michigan should take care of business against the weaker teams on the schedule, including MSU, but they will probably lose to ND, Iowa, and Nebraska. Beating TSIO will depend on how badly the "troubles" in Columbus affect their offense, and if Borges can figure out how to use this personnel correctly. If the Michigan offense finds a way to click by then, they can beat TSIO. Their chances in a bowl game are dependent upon how the addition of Nebraska affects matchups. They aren't good enough to beat a quality SEC team yet, though.

Yep. Remember when Penn State was going to win the Big Ten every year for the foreseeable future. How'd that turn out? Three championships since they joined in 1993, same as Northwestern.

Kinda sad, since I just read that the national (not just Big Ten) analysts were all picking Michigan to win the division if The King had not been wrongfully fired. 79% of the analysts also say the new scoreboards will do nothing for the stadium nor help the team. 100% of the analysts disagree with the ticket price increase. DB disagrees with 100% of the analysts and 100% of the fans. Go Blue.

No way Michigan State finishes ahead of us in the division - even assuming Dantonio keeps all of his players out of jail. Michigan is going to have stronger team than most people think. The Children of the Corn might possibly win the division, but we play them in Ann Arbor. So, I'll give us the advantage there.

"We," Mick? What position do you play on the team?

In my mind, I play QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, K......I don't play Punter cause "we" won't be punting to "you" this year. How do you like that Buck Wild? P.S. I also coach, haha, and I don't cheat!!!

I don't think Nebraska is going to be able to come in to the league, with that schedule, having to get accustomed to all the new venues and tear it up just like that. Taylor Martinez is also injury prone, there are no guarantees they'll be able to adjust right away. I really feel like it's going to be between U-M and MSU, with Neb being in the mix as well. We're gonna surprise people this year. The Def is going to so improved from getting coached up better and I believe we have a lot more talent than we're getting credit for, M. Wile is the real deal as a Kicker, so that will be improved, we shall see, won't we. We will win at least 10 games this year

I agree with Nebraska, but I don't see Michigan winning 10 games. They still have a long way to go on defense, and our offense did nothing against the big boys the past three seasons. I definitely foresee tremendous improvement, but with Brian Kelley in yr 2 at ND, MSU, NW, Illinois, and Iowa on the road, not to mention Nebraska and OSU...that's a pretty tough schedule for a team that has a new coach and has been awful for three years. I believe that UM will beat some of those teams that I mentioned, but not enough to get 10 wins. While that would be great, I don't see it for this season.

all good reasons Mick....those analists are smitten with the Nebraska name... no way that team holds up to the week in and week out pounding of the Big Ten without at least 3 conference losses.
