Two tight end recruits commit to Michigan football program

Call Vincent Smith a smurf to his face. You're talking about Michigan student athletes. Show some respect.

All true about the non-binding aspect, but all applies to all verbal commitments nationwide. Even though both are listed as tight ends, Williams is much bigger. Funchess could develop into a big wide receiver - kind of a hybrid. 6'5" always works, but if he adds muscle to get to around 225 - he could be split out to create some nice mismatches. Years ago at Alabama Ozzie Newsome was used this way, tough to defend. Too fast for a linebacker, too big for a cornerback to cover. Guys like this help keep the drive alive, first down Wolverines!

Ultimately, it's all about scoring points. Nobody ever won a game because they had more first downs than the other team.

And ultimately, it's all about getting first downs.

Somewhere Our King is frowning. (But the Blue Hair Crowd has declared it a national holiday. Plenty of renewed reason to shout "Down in front!" to the real fans). Nevertheless, we're all in this together. Theo (er, Terry), simulated the B10 title game on my Atari last night. Big Blue 39 guest 13

"Somewhere Our King is frowning." That's right. The recruiting chart should be filled with 5'6" wide receivers. I know you think Hoke is going to run a 1970's offense ... two tight ends each down and a fullback. Ain't gonna happen.

Hey, I'm excited about going back to a pro-style, yet I am also one of the fans who has been shouted at to get "down in front!" More than once...at both football AND basketball games. So I guess even some of us rabid fans who like to stand up and cheer all game long are excited about the 'new' direction of Michigan football. You are correct, however, that we are all in this together. Go Blue!

"Two tight end recruits commit to Michigan football program" Oh! Oh! Let me be the first ... Bob Ufer: "Two tight ends and a balanced line ... Huckleby deep and Davis close ... Rickeee Leach under center ..." Ah ... the memories.

Azwolverine.....correctomundo on the non-binding, but you got to admit it is exciting to see all these young kids now finding the direction our program appears to be going is great ! I'm so excited I prematurely ordered Big Ten Championship playoff tickets for our game this December 3 against Wisconsin - couldn't wait !

This is far better news than our cornerback leaving, that's for sure. Both of these guys sound like they could fit in great with our new pro-style offense. Let's keep in mind, though, that these verbal commitments are non-binding...
