University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman: 'I don't know who the football coach will be'
If University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman knows who the front-runner is to be Michigan's next head football coach, she isn't tipping her hand.
Coleman made a regularly scheduled appearance at the faculty Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs this afternoon to brief faculty leaders on a variety of issues.
She addressed the ongoing search for Rich Rodriguez' replacement after talking about a handful of issues and before taking questions from the about 10 faculty members on the committee.

U-M President Mary Sue Coleman
"No, I don't know who the next football coach is going to be," she said. "I can promise you that the athletic director (Dave Brandon) is working very hard, and that he will do a good job."
Brandon reportedly will meet with current LSU coach Les Miles tomorrow to discuss the opening, but has been mostly quiet about the search.
"The process is proceeding with careful consideration as to the qualifications, commitment, effectiveness and passion that various candidates would bring to our program," Brandon wrote in a blog posted on the athletic department's website today.

"I am sure all of the news reports are interesting for our fans, but I am too busy to follow the majority of the news except to hear some pretty wild stories about 'where I am and who I am talking to.' The last week should be a reminder to everyone not to believe everything you read or hear. Some of the so-called 'news reports' over the past week have been simply ridiculous.
"We are looking for a coach that matches our program's particular needs and objectives, on and off the field."

You guys bashing Les.... just watch. When he has Michigan winning the Big Ten title inside 3 years, come back here and tell me "he's not the coach for me."

Moe (at the wheel): Say Curly, how many more miles to U of Meechigan? Curley (reading the Miles story onA2.com on his laptop): No Moe, it's Les Miles, n-yuk n-yuk!

Uhm, no defense? The D is showing up big tonight. A safety was scored for crying out loud. Nothing against D Rob, but six six two fitty will get it done much better than six zero one ninety.

@The Ben: Fine. The 3-3-5 defense does not prevent you from winning. I'll give you that. Bad coaching prevents you from winning, though. In any scheme.

barnz378: For the amount the two get overpaid from tax payer money, they should be doing a tremendous job. U of M thinks throwing money willy nilly at people gets a job done. At RR showed, that isn't usually the case.

I'm watching Oregon-Auburn right now. What's up with Oregon's "gimmicky" offense and 3-3-5 defense? How is this possible? I thought those things made it impossible to win, especially in the "tough" Big Ten? Maybe we can put that garbage to rest now. RichRod did not fail because his schemes don't work. He failed because of poor recruiting and not "coaching 'em up" properly. There is absolutely nothing special about the Big Ten that would make any particular scheme fail. Nothing. Tonight's game is proof.

Let me rephrase that quickly, Brandon has handled the last few days perfectly as far as keeping quiet and giving no credence to wild stories. Prior to that there's ample reason to say he botched it badly and looks like he's caught off guard.

Jason, Les handled that perfectly so far, and so has Brandon.

If Miles can step in front of the cameras only to say that he's very comfortable at LSU, and then turn around and come to A2, I'm not sure that this is the dude we want. I, for one, want character. He didn't have to issue a statement in that way, but he did. If he comes to Michigan, he has just proven that he's a huge phony, and that is NOT the coach for me. GO BLUE!

Being reported LSU will negotiate Miles buy out. They obviously don't want him and I suspect he knows it. Les Miles will be the next coach at Michigan.

It has to be Les Miles and it has to be the 5 million that was dangled to JH. She showed her ignorance paying off 1/2 RR buy out
