The score wasn't important, but the estimated 35,000 fans who braved a cool, windy Saturday to watch the Michigan football team's spring game at Michigan Stadium had a few clear winners to cheer.

Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson looked sharp in every drill, especially when he teamed with sophomore receiver Roy Roundtree.

The two combined to create the loudest cheers of the day. On a drill with the offense starting on its own 3-yard line, Robinson needed just one play to score, hitting Roundtree with a crisp, hard throw for a 97-yard touchdown.

Robinson, the No. 2 quarterback last season behind Tate Forcier, was an estimated 5-of-7 passing before the overtime drills that ended the scrimmage. In the OT drill, Robinson twice led the offense to touchdowns.

Freshman quarterback Devin Gardner, at 6-foot-4 and 203 pounds, is the biggest of the quarterback candidates entering the 2010 season, and showed nice touch and a tight spiral on several throws. He also fumbled his first snap and a few others later and threw an interception on the drill from the offense's own 3-yard line.

Forcier, who Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said earlier in the week might not play Saturday because of a sprained foot, did see action, going an estimated 5-of-8 passing with a lost fumble before the OT drills.

Wonder why Denard started, then Tate, then Devin.... I think Denard is the leader right now, think he won the job... no Tate, was healthy, ran the ball well, quick kicked 48 yds., passed on the run, guess what - Denard won that starting job this week... bonkers of an improvement from last year.... yes it's spring practice game, but last year he was in high school right now... was good to see that freshman kid Paukoski kick FG's... didn't see any defensive stars... what does that say?

@ Terry Star... just got back from the game, can' wait to see it tonight on TV after I hot tub for 3 hrs.... I sure thought there were more than the 35,000 the reporter mentioned - would'a guessed 55,000.... Denard would start tomorrow if it was September, that was not the Denard I saw last year... pass speed quicker, more accurate no hesitation in backfield - fires quickly... that 98 yd'r to Tree was artwork... we'll see more... do stay tuned for the 'Denard Show'.

It was awful cold, windy... maybe 60,000?... hard to gauge the 'D' line as they weren't really being agressive at the QB, but have to say I was not impressd... when you watch the replay tonight watch how line drive, accurate Denard is.. on his second series, he throws a bullet to Roundtree as tree's running full speed, right at the hip catch, didn't have to reach for it, split 2 guys and into the end zone - 98 yds... every pass was on money. Cox was awesome weaving and cutting, freshman Hopkins powered through the line dragging 'D' with him... Pauloski - we got a field goal kicker! 50 yd. practice, 41 in game and a freshman. Tate seemed okay, ran the ball, good passing on the run, quick kicked the ball 50 yards, may need him as our punter this year - whew. Not overly impressed with game... way worth it though, watch Denard, Cox, Hopkins, & Pauloski tonight, it'll make you smile.

it looks like we are lacking running backs and reciever. Until the defense proves it can stop other offenses it scares the hell out of me the team as a whole looks small.

I know it's way too early to make any predictions and I also know that Tate was injured earlier in the week. Another thing to point out is that Tate was playing with the 2's, but from what I saw today I would have to say that IMO Denard Robinson will be the starting QB next season. Our defense should really be our main focus between now and September. I think no matter who wins the QB job, we will put points on the board. If our defense can keep the opponent under 15 ppg then I think we will have a great season. Possibly 9-10 wins
