Denard Robinson talks about being the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Year

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Michigan sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson sounded humble and even a bit shy on the Big Ten Network after being named the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Year.

hey The OSU. we may face florida in the gator bowl and maybe get whipped like you say but i seem to remember OSU losing to florida in 06 in both football and basketball national title games and then i also remember michigan beating that same florida football team the very next year. Atleast we BEAT them. OSU cant!

KeepingItReal: I do NOT have "personal issues" with DR. I'm not sure what you implying (racism?). I merely don't think he's worthy of Big 10 offensive player of the year. Flashy stats don't deserve to be emphasized when others led their teams to victory (the ultimate stat).

Still Bleeding Blue: Yes, we know UM is going to a bowl game and we're all very proud of you. With your big wins over Indiana and Illinois, you reached the magic 6 victories and are bowl-eligible. UM will be going to a better bowl than the team actually deserves, possibly the Gator Bowl. The reason is pure economics. UM fans travel well and most smaller venues would want to host a team with such a large fan-base. Unfortunately, you may end up facing Florida. RR & Co. will again get whipped and embarass the Big 10.

Hey NoBowl, time to change that name? It's funny all the signs that read "In Rod We Trust" last year when UM was 4-0. Everyone predicted an 7-5 or 8-4 at best record this year. Why is everyone so ticked that the prediction was right? I believe that Mr. Brandon is a smart business man who also has strong ties to our beloved footbal program. He will make the right call and I believe it will be giving RR another year to improve.

DRob can thank his denfense for all the opportunities to put up numbers. The other team would score quickly so he got back on the field faster.

Chad: Did DR beat Ohio State? Did he beat Michigan State? Did he beat Wisconsin? Did he win the Big 10 championship? Did he lead his team to a major bowl? Did he do anything the REALLY matters?

So what if he only had 300 yards against the big boys. 300 yards of offense is still a lot for a QB. Pryor and others may have played better in the bigger games but for some strange reason kinda struggled against lower teams. Of course iowa, wis, msu, osu could afford some offensive struggles because of the D. nearly 4000 yards of offense and 30 touchdowns for a sophmore is jus as impressive as tebows sophmore year. They lost 4 games and he won the heisman. Im shocked that he isnt part of any national awards. top 5 in every rushing category and a top 25 passer rating with 14 int thats strange but shows progress.

DR = Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year. Obama = Nobel Peace Prize. Similarities? All sizzle, no steak. Both have potential, but both received their prize BEFORE they actually perform the task. Show me a winning QB!

A2Dave The Team, The Team The Team!!! The coach who recruited DRob has failed miserably in building a winning team!!! Last I knew one players personal accomplishments were not the barometer of how successful a program is. Let's see, 0-12 in B10 in 3 yrs against teams with winning records. 6-18 in B10 in 3 yrs under RR. An offense that is terrible against quality B10 defenses. A defense that is terrible against everybody including Div 1AA. So let's all join hands and sing kumbya for ol' RR for recruiting a player that fits his style of offense that doesn't work in the B10 against good teams. Our offense is not close to those employed by the #1 & #2 ranked teams, those offenses are not built around one player and they are actually coached to perform a high level. Look at where RR offense ranks against good teams..

Frankly, I don't think DR deserves it (Big 10 offensive player of the year). He's a gifted athlete and has played some good games. Yes, he's set some records especially when matched against weak opponents. However, he has been prone to injury and not completed numerous games. Most significantly, he did not lead his team to victory. For the Big 10 to award offensive player of the year to a QB without a winning record (against meaningful opponents), is wrong.

DRob better get more comfortable in front of the camera----probably many more interviews on the horizon. seems like a good kid but it must be a great burden to have someone's career on your young shoulders.

So, yeah, we should fire the coach who recruited Denard, and put the offense in place that has allowed him to break almost every QB offensive record in the book. Essentially the same offense, by the way, employed by the BCS #1 & #2 rated teams.
