Defense attorney Mike Tuszynski told a St. Joseph County judge on Tuesday that the former Notre Dame defensive coordinator was at the University of Michigan Hospital. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Ken Cotter said Brown's wife requested the testing.
Brown faces charges of confinement and domestic battery stemming from a seven-hour standoff with police Aug. 12 at his home near South Bend. Prosecutors say Brown held his wife hostage with a handgun and bruised her. Brown was hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the standoff.
Brown's family has said they believe his actions might stem from brain trauma he suffered while playing football. Brown played at Michigan from 1989-92 and then went on to play eight seasons in the NFL with the Patriots, Jets and Lions.
