Former Michigan football player Jim Wolter dies at age 80

Jim Wolter, a guard on some of the formidable Michigan football teams of the late 1940s and early 1950s died Sunday at age 80, according to his son.

Born in 1929, Wolter graduated from Ypsilanti High School. He was a freshman when the Wolverines won a national championship in 1948.

He helped lift Michigan to conference titles in 1949 and 1950 and a Rose Bowl win over California in 1951. After football, Wolter worked as a chief appraiser at First Federal Bank for much of his career. He lived in Livonia.


Funeral arrangements have been made through the Harry J. Will Funeral Home in Livonia. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, and his funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. For more information, please click here.
