Former Michigan football quarterback Tate Forcier plans to visit schools soon
Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier is considering attending several schools, including some outside of the Football Bowl Subdivision, he told ESPN in an interview.
Forcier, who confirmed his departure from Michigan's football program Jan. 19 by press release and a series of updates on Twitter, said he will visit schools soon.
In the same ESPN article, Forcier's father, Michael, said that his son did not "flunk out" of Michigan, but had two incomplete grades that could have been turned around.
Forcier, who started every game his freshman season at Michigan before backing up Denard Robinson last season, finished with 2,647 passing yards and 17 touchdown passes at Michigan.

I would like to wish Tate good luck, as he will be missed. I saw him in h is first season and he showed alot of promise. Some school will benefit by his talent. Thankyou Tate for the accomplishments you gave to Michigan, and hope you do well.

Brady Hoke, I would hope, will put the best player at each position on the field. That means everybody is starting from scratch. The coaching change is the best thing that could have happened to Tate, because he had a chance to put in the work and make a run at the starting job this offseason. This all spells out the same thing to me: Tate just doesn't have the work ethic you need to be the starting QB at a school like Michigan.

@Portage: You can be argumentative all you want about Tate, but I don't see the point. Fact of the matter is, his own actions led to his separation from the team. Usually, experience --be it your own experience or those of a close relation -- is a good teacher, but in this case, the results are what they are. I did not like that Woolfolk called him out, but nobody else on this team got removed from the team, called out by teammates, and had 2 older siblings who also played collegiate football. If I were a coach (I am not) or a future employer (I am not), I would advise him to use those around him and learn from them. And again, good luck to him. Not a bad guy at all, just flawed like the rest of us.

Hey folks, we have a Russell Bellomy story posted. Can we move comments on him to that story? http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/michigan-football-team-gets-quarterback-commitment/

Smart move, Tate. Handing off up the middle is not your strong suit. In short time, Coach Hoke will have 11 offensive linemen on the field, the center will direct snap it to himself on every play, and there will be a big pileup as we gain 0-2 yards. It won't lead to many wins, but it will satisfy 3 criteria the fan base perplexingly longs for: 1) it's archaic 2) lineman will have bloody noses 3) we won't sully our reputation by trying to take Crystal Long live the pro set.

Theo, If Tate is smart for leaving, does that make Denard dumb for staying? Denard is fast and played very well in the spread offense yet he decided to stay to improve his game. If you keep an open mind you will see that the U-M offense under Hoke will not be 3 yards and a cloud of dust like you fear.

I think Tate left mostly because he wants to be the star QB and be in the spotlight and saw that he wouldn't be able to do that U-M so long as Denard is at U-M. Notice how he didn't announce he was leaving until after Brady Hoke talked about how "special" a talent Denard was. I don't think that was a coincidence. I wish him the best, though.

Judging from what we see with Hokemania's recruiting, they are going to use that scholie to rebuild the defense & pick up another, QB...possibly the 6-3 dual threat kid from Texas who is scheduled for a visit and has a good looking highlight vid. Id say that is very strong thinking by the new staff...Tate had his shot here, it didnt work out... and both sides will move on to better things for both. Hopefully Tate grows from this and ends up with a degree from a good school and some playing time as well.

While it is easy to feel bad for Tate for having to transfer, I maintain that by the end of his second full year on the team, his fourth or fifth semester, and being a part time starter, he should have known what was expected. And as a student who had 2 older brothers who had been through it, you would have thought that he could have used their experience to help him know at least what to expect. Whatever the situation that made him and the team split ways, I wish him the best and will thank him for giving fans and alumni some great memories (ND 2009, Ill 2010). But I also hope he uses this whole situation to grow up and meet expectations. That is the name of the game in life, not just collegiate football. And that growing up is a lot of what college is or should be about, and one of the big reasons that I think players should enjoy the experience.

You don't have to know the whole story to that when not one, not two, but THREE brothers all start their college careers at one school before transferring, there is more than coincidence there. Come on.

I didn't walk in young Mr Tate's shoes so I really can't project what really happened here. As for his older brothers I never got an opportunity to talk with them about any of those situations so I never got both sides of the story, did you?

Tate did not "flunk out", he just neglected to finish the minimum amount of work required to stay football eligible. Also, he did not "quit" the team...the team quit him. Also, Tate had two incompletes that could have been completed...what?..You mean if someone completed them for him?

Im not so sure "the team quit him" michboy... it appears to be a parting of the ways because Tate didnt meet the expectations of his scholarship... for whatever reason, and thats not an indictment on him but it was his choice to attend class and apparently he did not. Aside from Tate, Michigan has a limited number of scholies and cant waste them on a player who has a history of some issues in the classroom and they may not be able to count on him in the future.

Why are you wasting your time writing about this guy? Neither he or any of his brothers were committed enough to stay with one program for the duration of their NCAA careers. Let's concentrate on the team and coaches we have, not a quitter.

As one of our posters would say, "Ill be danged" hated to see Tate go. I think at the very least with this old style football coming back Tate could have been an asset. Whatever reason Tate is no longer with us, it stinks of something.

Stinks of what? Tate did not complete his schoolwork. He has been at UM for 2 years, counting his early enrollment in Jan. 09... how long does it take a kid to get it in the classroom? Maybe never, perhaps he has a learning disability...of which we can be sympathetic towards and try to get him some help...perhaps his home schooling in lieu of HS was not effective to prep him for a difficult school like UM>.. could be a lot of things...but "stinks" is not fair to Tate and not fair to UM which has a limited number of scholies and probably did more than you and I will ever know to try to help Tate compete off the field... and he just was not able to for whatever reason.

Even if you accept what Forcier's father said that his son "did not flunk out", there had to be some other reason(s) why he was kicked off the team. We may never know what they are, but it doesn't matter. I wish him luck wherever he ends up (as long as it's not another Big Ten school!

He *did* flunk out. He had two incomplete courses. An incomplete is NOT a passing grade, therefor it is a failing grade. He was academically ineligible to play, period. His father can spin it however he wants, but it doesn't make it so.
