Former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady voted No. 1 NFL player by his peers
If there is an NFL season in 2011, Tom Brady will be the best player.
The former Michigan quarterback was voted No. 1 in the NFL Network’s “The Top 100 Players of 2011.” The top 10 spots, as voted by NFL players, were announced on Sunday night.
Brady, a three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time league MVP with the New England Patriots, beat out Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning (No. 2) and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (No. 3) for the top honor.
A portion of Brady’s reaction, on the “Top 100 Players of 2011 Reactions” show Sunday night (hear the entire telephone interview with the NFL Network’s Leslie Soto here):
“It’s very flattering. I’ve been, I think, very fortunate over the years to play with an incredible organization and an incredible group of players. And this year was, really, a great year for our team, you know, in the regular season, and we accomplished some great things.“The thing that I love about football and I’ve always loved, which I think draws each player in the NFL to this game, is that it’s a team sport. So, you know, every teammate that I’ve ever had, the teammates that I’ve had this year nobody would really accomplish anything without the help of every single guy on that team and every coach.
“It’s very flattering, like I said, but ultimately, I give all of the thanks to teammates past and present. They’re what really makes this game special for me.”
Three other former Wolverines were part of the top 100 list, which was unveiled over a 10-week series: Green Bay Packers cornerback Charles Woodson (No. 16), Miami Dolphins tackle Jake Long (No. 28) and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end LaMarr Woodley (No. 82).

Do some people post comments on here just to promote their own chatboard? Just curious...

Brady might be the best in the NFL, but is Denard the best in the NCAA? These guys seem to think Denard will be benched quickly into the season... http://www.chatsports.com/michigan-wolverines/a/Why-I-believe-Denard-may-be-Benched-10-2-203

A spring game, played in questionable weather, when he has only had a very brief amount of time to adjust to the offense, and that is somehow indicative? Hardly. Denard Robinson was under center his entire high school career. He doesn't need to learn how be a quarterback from center, he just needs to relearn it. He will be fine.

I think every coach at Michigan has recruited some great talent including Rich Rodriguez. I know there are a couple of nasyaers that disagree with me and that's what makes this a good site. There are a lot of folks that hated LLoyd Carr but I for one liked him and thought he was a decent coach. I never thought either LLoyd or Rich Rodriguez were great coaches but I did think Rich had potential and I think LLoyd just got old and tired and ran out of gas. I see a lot of potential and good recruiting and just as important organizing skills with coach Hoke and his staff. Now I realize to be fair and honest about it coach Hoke needs to prove his coaching abilities on the playing field as a Head Coach at Michigan. I'm rooting for coach Hoke and I think the addition of Nebraska can only lite a needed fire under the butts of the Big Ten as a whole. At this time I wouldn't put Nebraska in a class with Alabama or even Oregon but tradition wise I think Nebraska is right up there with the best of them. If you don't believe it just listen to those worshipping fans that would loudly follow that team to the ends of the earth. You know, that whole story about Tom Brady should be made into a movie. Tom Brady actually is better than the great Peyton Manning and just might be the best to ever play the game. I imagine LLoyd Carr thinks about Tom Brady everyday and I'll bet Tom thinks about LLoy frequently and Drew Henson.

Hold up one moment here ... Tom Brady was a product of the dreaded Carr years ... and some on this comment board are quick to remind us that Carr was not a very good coach at all. So how is this possible? :-)

Brady Hoke coached the defensive line for the Wolverines from 1995-2002. His recruiting territory including the state of California and he was Tom Brady's lead recruiter from the UM.

It's pretty cool that the last 3 years notwithstanding, we have 4 alums in the top 100. Hoke recruited Brady to U-M and now he's recruiting future top rated players to our program, meaning we'll be a great and competitive team again. I'm looking forward to see who those players will be, I'm sure there will be plenty to choose from. Go Blue for TiM!!! Happy 4th of July everyone!!!

Yes indeed ... we are in good hands. I have a sneaking suspicion that this fall will yield many surprises -- not the least of which is a more creative offense than some anticipate. Borges has that sneaky look to him ... like he's got a plan and he's just playing the nay-sayers right now. And all across the Big 10 there are defensive coordinators thinking, "Holy cow ... what are we going to do if Borges teaches Robinson to spot and go to the open man rather than just tuck and run? We give Robinson a glimmer of daylight and he's gone ... but if he's learned just a big more patience and he looks for the play to develop then we're toast."
