How about Tony Dungy at Michigan? 'I'm done coaching,' he says
Jackson native and former NFL head coach Tony Dungy spent time on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Friday, and laughed hard when he was asked about the head football coaching opening at Michigan.
Patrick and Dungy, now an NFL analyst, had a long conversation about the NFL and briefly touched on Michigan's opening.
Patrick: Did Michigan call you about their job?
Dungy: They did not. (laughing) And I’m kind of glad. I grew up about 20 miles from there. And my dad is a big, big Michigan man. But I’m glad they didn’t call me.
Patrick: But what if they do call?
Dungy: If they call, I would have some recommendations for them of other guys that would do a great job for them. (more laughing)
Later, Patrick asked Dungy about the Stanford opening and the Miami Dolphins opening. Dungy responded, "I'm done coaching, Dan."

DB waited for JH to get the job at 49ers just in case JH wanted to go back to Michigan. But now that JH is gone, DB will get try to get Les "11-win" Miles from LSU. It will be up to Les to turn down the job and if he does, that is where Brandon will get Brady Hoke. Miles will unify the fan bases more than Hoke and has been relatively successful in the SEC. One will have to be good to regularly win 9-10 games in the SEC. It will be Les' job to turn down.

Get Les Myles in here; shake things up, sweep the cobwebs out, get risky and dangerous, thumb the nose at tradition, get real, be innovative, look at football from a different perspective, make life at the Big House exciting again, provoke and edge upon controversy, spawn futuristic football, get Les Myles in here. At the very least he wouldn't suck up and be kissy-kissy, huggy-huggy to Mary Sue and Brandon.

Maybe Jim Tressel would like a new challenge...

I can say he does not currently live in Jackson, even though he grew up there. He lives in Florida I believe. It would be interesting. If this was all happening 4-5 years ago and if Dungy was interested.

81wolverine, I fully agree with you. I'm glad Dungy removed himself from consideration. I had seen other people bring his name up and I was beginning to get worried that DB might get desperate enough to consider him. I have a lot of respect and admiration for Tony as a coach and as a person, but he's not the answer here. We need someone younger. Turning this thing around is going to take a lot of hard work.

Tony Dungy is a great person and all. But, his name even coming up for the Michigan job is a great example of the absurd speculation going on in the media right now. It's only been two days and it's already getting ridiculous. Someone who is 55 and hasn't coached in college for almost 30 years is a viable candidate? C'mon man!

He'd be a nice fit but that is once again a wish-list candidate for us. We need someone more hard-nosed than Our former King!

...or two 50 yard lines would give Denard more possible yards to rack up.

Yeah, maybe playing 3 down football will improve the M defense!

If Michigan were interested in a pro type coach there is a good one in Canada and he knows how to build a team, his name is Marc Trestman. He has coached for Montreal for only 3 years and all 3 years he has been to the Grey Cup and won it twice. He is a quiet leader and knows discipline. Hope Dave Brandon reads this to possibly give him that idea jujst a thought.
