Les Miles will be at a press conference this morning, but it's not about Michigan

By AnnArbor.com Staff

LSU football coach Les Miles, rumored to be among the candidates for the Michigan football coaching opening, will be at a press conference this morning as Tigers cornerback Patrick Peterson will announce he's headed to the NFL.

Miles, who has a contract with LSU through 2014 and earns $3.751 million per year, also will be in Dallas on Tuesday to speak to the American Football Coaches Association convention, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Speculation about Miles' future at LSU has not abated, even though assistant coaches called Tigers recruits on Sunday to assure them that Miles remained a part of the LSU program.

Hopefully it truely is Peterson. I've said it for 2 years now that he would be the right man. If this isn't true then it looks as if he is considering replacing Jim Harbaugh, acording to reports I've seen How ironic.

Brandon is just inviting Les to a grass tastefest at A2. Hoke Is It! All kidding aside, were Brandon and Les teammates back in the Bo era?

@Crusty - Did you actually see Chris Peterson, or is this another one of those rumors flying around town? I can still remember when the word was out that Miles was looking at homes for sale in A2, then we ended up with RR. Chris Peterson... that would be an interesting choice. @Heartbreak - Yes, this is all much more fun than the should we fire RR discussions. And just wait until we find out who the new coach is - the commentary sections will overflow!

Crustyc -- you have seen Chris Peterson in AA with your eyes, or did someone tell someone who told someone who told someone who told you that they saw someone who might look like Christ Peterson?

@Goblue: Maybe it's just paranoia. It just seems that everyone from the ex-AD, the current coaches, the current AD, the "unknown LSU spokesperson"--all of them seem to indicate that Miles is not going anywhere. I feel he would be great (though there are flags with him too) but he could come in, be accepted by the majority, know what to do with talent, and would feel like he is returning to a comfortable old home with new goods on board. And he's crazy enough to keep things interesting all the time. With Harbaugh, everything seemed so much more speculative, without this person or that commenting.....with Miles, it just seems there are too many voices saying "nope". (Hope I'm wrong, but there are others, as we are learning). Aren't these more fun discussions than complaining about the former "coach"? Can't wait until we can get back to discussions about "we should run more", "we should pass more", rather than "let's get rid of the bum".

HBM Trying to figure out what signs you are reading. Seems to me that Les is very much in play.

What else would you expect LSU assistant coaches to say. Miles has a meet and greet with Brandon for the job and nothing is preventing him from taking the job. Remember one thing,do some research on Miles and his relationship LSU officials and then tell me he doesn't have M on his mind. And, if he stays at LSU Hoke would be a fine choice, in fact a better one at that.

As a Tiger fan I, like many faithful from here and in Michigan, have been watching this obsessively. My impression is that LM is already packing his bags. I believe that the Cotton Bowl was a audition for the job. The game plan was classic Big Ten and something that he has not really tried here in the SEC. At least to that extent. I have to add, if he should be made an offer and accept, you will be getting a coach who is loyal to a fault. He is extremely loyal to his players and his job. I can only imagine it will be even stronger at his Alma Mater. Incidental Notes: -His press conferences are baffling -His ride is a bright (Michigan) yellow Lamborghini

Are you saying that he's not coming to Michigan so you don't get your hopes up, or do you legitimately believe that? I think its very much a possibility.

I can't imagine that Miles is coming to Michigan. At this point I wouldn't place a bet on any of the names that have been submitted as possibilities for Michigan's next coach. Let's just hope we have an answer by the end of this week. Go Blue!

Well, perhaps Hoke will be the final choice. And that's not necessarily bad. This guy built up an undefeated Ball State team with no top recruits-not an easy feat to accomplish, even in the MAC. SDSU is rolling in the right direction. Give the nod to Hoke, my fellow Wolverines.
