Mathematical analysis of Tom Izzo's success at Michigan State; plus sad news from Texas
AP photo
In 13 NCAA tournaments under Tom Izzo, Michigan State has advanced to the Final Four six times. What are the odds of that occurring? Very, very low, according to political Web site fivethirtyeight.com.
The folks over there used a logistic regression model based on the square root of MSU's seedings over the years to break down the success Izzo has found in East Lansing. It's interesting reading.
That success hasn't gone unnoticed. Oregon is expected to make a run at Izzo for its vacant basketball job, according to The Oregonian, although Izzo told the Grand Rapids Press he has not been contacted and is happy in East Lansing.
