Michigan football commit Desmond Morgan's 'work ethic is second to none'

The Grand Rapids Press talked to Holland West Ottawa athletic director Pat Marsman about linebacker Desmond Morgan, who made a verbal commitment to Michigan earlier this week.
“His work ethic is second to none,” Marsman said. “He’s a very, very hard worker and an excellent leader. He’s a great kid, very humble and not cocky at all, but confident. And he’s a great student (4.0 GPA, 27 ACT). He takes his academics very seriously.”

Hey some folks miss 3 yards and a pile of dust and the predictable draw play on 3rd and 6 which usually netted about 4 yards. Oooh, how exciting! Michigan will have a Top 5 offense next year with an Experienced Starting Quarterback, something the haters want us to forget. To go into any season ( like the last 3 ) with an inexperienced QB just trying to get his feet wet and for the Offense to Gel and to expect to beat Top 10 BCS talent ( at least at one point in the season ) would be ludicrous. We will finally have 2 QB's with experience and a Boatload of potential to run this offense as good if not better than Oregon next year. Oh, yeah, let's blow the whole thing up and put in a Pro style offense and rebuild for 3 more years, yeah, that's the ticket.... Lame!

show me an offense for michigan that put up the numbers this offense did this year? the spread destroyed stanford this year! the spread is why auburn and oregon are playing for the NC! the spread is why michigan got destroyed by oregon in 2007!go back and watch the michigan-northwestern game in 2000, thats right michigan lost to a spread offense and they had a pretty darn good team that year! your hate for rr is keeping you in the past... enjoy your memories... GO BLUE...

Halftime scores vs. decent Big Ten Teams: Michigan State 17 Michigan 10 Iowa 21 Michigan 7 Penn State 28 Michigan 10 Wisconsin 24 Michigan 0 Ohio State 24 Michigan 7 Combined Score at Halftime in 5 games, BT play vs. decent opponents: Opponents 114 Michigan 34 once again: OPPONENTS 114 MICHIGAN 34 You can pour as much Kool-Aid over that but you will never remove the smell. Fact: RR's supposed vaunted offense, the "best in 40 years at Michigan" is a complete and bold faced LIE. It does not produce in crunch time vs. decent opponents and the stats are inflated wildly in Garbage Time and vs. Weak opponents. Facts. Any Questions? Didnt think so.

brazil... JH is an excellent football coach and he turned stanford around in four years, hopefully richrod will do that in is 4th year? if michigan's D had been just 50% better this year we would have been 8-4 or 9-3. hopefully one or two of are tb's will step up and take preassure off of drob. if hart still comes i think it will. next years O and D will be better... GO BLUE...

I would agree with you that maybe RR should get 1 more year, but with the way he came here from WVU (lawsuit and UM paying 2.5 million of his buyout), and with the way he seemed to turn his back on UM traditions & rivalries, and with the NCAA violations here and the pending ones at WVU, and with the blaming others & not taking responsibility for problems & failures, I have to respectfully disagree. "the most exciting offense in the 40+ yrs i have been watching michigan football! the same type of offense that destroyed stanford this year!"... i agree it is exciting at times, especially with guys like D Rob, but for me that was mostly before the MSU, Iowa, PSU, Wiscy, and OSU games. The O struggled more in these games, but the O will probably improve next year with or without a new coach. Not sure about your Stanford comment... JH's Stanford was rated the 8th best O in the nation, scoring 40.3 Pts/game (plus they had the 10th best D in the nation at 17.8 Pts/game)... UM O was 22nd with 34.3 Pts/game... very good, but not great with many turnovers and at times failure to execute (especially in the Red Zone; i think they were rated last in the BT in Red Zone efficiency).

Maybe there are more and more negative posters about RR because our D has gone steadily downhill from 27th in the nation before he came to 110th in his 3 years. Just because he recruits some D players doesn't mean he will get the D to improve. His record shows otherwise. Plus we've been 15-21 and 6-18 in the BT. Plus NCAA violations. Can you blame people for not wanting RR anymore? You honestly can't see why?

ecmichman... we have almost everybody coming back next year on both sides of the ball. the new defensive players coming in hopefully will all redshirt? but some maybe could help out next year? this years defense will be much improved next year. i'am not making any excuses, many negative posters claim rr is not recruiting on the defense and when he does there are still complainers. hopefully these new recruits will not see the field next year but at least we are getting some top players who will play in two or three years that will have time to bulk up and learn the system... we must see continued improvement or rr will be gone next year and that is when it will stop and a new coach will be needed... GO BLUE...

umgoblue - I am not following your logic here. All of the RR apologists have said the reason for the defensive woes is because there are so many freshmen starters. How will three new freshmen help the defense "shape up" for next year? Sounds like the excuse machine will be in full spin once again and we will have to give RR at least three MORE years to wait for THESE kids to develop. When will it stop?

Mike Hart and Braylon Edwards were 3 stars coming out of high school, ratings don't mean squat alot of the time. 3 & out I usually agree w/you, especially about RR, but this kid is a natural LB who played QB this year after he was asked to and he looked pretty athletic to me. And OSUbebetter, you better hope we don't get Harbaugh to come to AA cause that won't be good for OSU.

I think most fans underestimate the value of a great defensive player and how they can change the whole ballgame. I'm not saying this is the kid, but all we need is one guy to hit stride and the whole D could change. With more experience, and some guys getting healthy, we can be respectable next year and forward.

umgoblue47.........I agree. There ARE a few negative posters on here. That will never change. Some are osu types, others, spartans, still others posing as UM fans. We know better. Meanwhile I think this kid will be a great addition, and will help build a great Rodriguez led program here at UM. If he has the same attitude as DRob, I think we'll see a great carrer here!

It is obvious that anyone who has a 4.0 GPA has a great work ethic. Sounds like the type of guy who fits Michigan's "team".

I remember hearing about this guy on 1050 a while back and yes his dad named him after Desmond Howard because they are a huge Michigan Family. He looked pretty good for a 17-18 year old kid, decent speed, good motor, likes to hit, decent size, a great student and natural leader. Can't wait to see his strength after a year under Barwis. :P

3stars is all i see...nothing but 3stars is the way RR be. Look....this kid could definitely be a contributor to an already solid defense, like Clint Copenhaver was to the 97 D... and we love a strong competitor and hard worker, but it is what it is...and im not ripping Des at all he may end up being great...but NFL talent no longer considers Michigan, RR recruits 3 stars and MAC level kids along with his vaunted "walk on" program :(.... and Harbaugh needs to be brought in to change that...and right soon! This is MICHIGAN

this kid is a natural? A natural what? I watched about four minutes of that highlight video, and thats all i could bear to see. On defense this kid blew up nobody. The hits he made in the backfield he made because he came in completely unblocked, that says more about the offensive line than it does about the linebacker. And the runs on offense where he slids his way out of 8 arm tackles, again that means nothing. But good job stealing this kid away from "The Mack" Theyve got to be pretty mad at Rodriguez by now, always sniffing around their recruits.

Wow, this kid is a natural, born in the early 90's and named desmond, hmm? Think his dad might be an M fan, I love it!! He was all over the field, very impressive, 3 stars? Looks like he's got a lot of upside. Plus the academics are there too, just the kinda athlete Harbaugh is gonna love coaching! BTW, this is someone coming to M no matter what, not because of RR.

I haven't seen any footage on him yet but he has Big Ten size and great academics for an athlete, so far I like him a lot. I'm hoping that the teams that recruited him is not a sign that he is low-level talent. So far his stats are okay and he seems like a true Michigan Man! When someone gets some footage on the kid please post it.
