Michigan football commit Logan Tuley-Tillman burns recruiting mail from Ohio State

By Nick Baumgardner

On Friday, Ohio State began targeting a Michigan football commit by formally offering 2013 four-star linebacker Mike McCray.

A day later, the Michigan-Ohio State recruiting battle made waves again.

Or, more specifically, fire.

Michigan offensive line commit Logan Tuley-Tillman, a member of the 2013 class, tweeted a photo Saturday of himself burning a piece of recruiting mail from the Ohio State football office.

Michigan football recruit Logan Tuley-Tillman tweeted this image of him burning a letter from Ohio State.

from Twitter

Tuley-Tillman, a 6-foot-7, 321-pound tackle from Peoria, Ill., is rated as a four-star prospect by both Rivals and He committed to Michigan in February.

He's the 13th-best offensive tackle prospect in the 2013 class, per Rivals, and rated as the 109th-best player in the class.

According to both Rivals and Scout, Tuley-Tillman does have an offer from Ohio State.

As for McCray, shortly after news got out of his Ohio State offer on Friday, the Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) prospect cleared up any confusion via his Twitter account.

"I'm not going anywhere," he wrote.

I've heard several people claim that this is childish. Could someone please elaborate? I don't see anything childish about this. You could even make the argument that he was using this as a metaphor. Children don't deal in metaphors.

Tue, May 29, 2012 : 6:13 p.m.

You got it was a rejection letter :-)

Tue, May 29, 2012 : 3:58 a.m.

This kid should fit right in at Michigan. Peoria, IL is HARDLY the high school football capital of the midwest. Likely another bust.

Tue, May 29, 2012 : 11:30 p.m.

Funny. Michigan doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning on October 20th. What will the excuses be for the next 365 days? I like Mike Hart. He was an outstanding representative of the University. So what if he "punked" the Spartans? He backed it up. Nobody on your not so good team has done so since! And that is MOST CERTAINLY not going to change this year! Was it the 173 yards of total offense against mediocre VaTech that got the fans so excited? From my point of view that was one of the most pathetic bowl games EVER! Where's the threat?

The "Tom's" of the world will be dealt with this fall. We won't have to worry about his brand of humor and he'll have to change his avatar!

Tue, May 29, 2012 : 4:16 a.m.

Thanks for your in-depth scouting analysis.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 10:17 a.m.

Some people read way too far into this kind of stuff. It's a kid having fun. No need to get all worked up. I think it's kind of funny. What is actually more funny, yet sad, is that this actually bothers people. I swear our society is becoming softer each day.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:14 p.m.

Good points

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 5:15 a.m.

Any kid willing to burn OSU recruiting material is my kind of recruit. Wish we had more of that instead of wishy-washy fans afraid of upsetting the rival schools.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:14 a.m.

Terrystar21 I understand what you are saying Terry. This just extends the Mike Hart curse. Michigan has all these recruits, Kalis, Pipkin, Magnus, Tillman, Shane making boastful statements and they haven't even played a down for Michigan. Yes, its very immature and I understand these are kids/ Kids do immature things. But, you are wrong if you think Hoke is celebrating this type of behavior. The rival with OSU is fantastic, but Mike Hart was 0-4 against OSU and MSU is on its way to 5-0. You tell me the benefit.

It's kind of like writting Mike Vick on your eye paint for a show of support after he'd been convicted of dog fighting. And then saying something along the lines of "everybody kills people" in the interview after. Wait a minute.....I take that back. This act is nothing compared to the one I just mentioned. People in glass houses.......

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 11:32 a.m.

Playing hard on the field is "making a statement. When you have to do silly stunts or mouth off its called being a punk. Just ask Steve.

Steve McQueen

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 9:56 a.m.

Its called "Making a Statement"... just like last year's game did. It is exactly the thing that pulls you over here: you are called by the statement and are scared as hell. lol ha ha.

Terry Star21

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 6:33 a.m.

rightmind.....Mike Hart never said anything about ohio, he did though about msu and finished 4-0 against his little brother. Watch for him on the sideline this year, making Paul Bunyan smile and bringing him back from the gang of thugs - home where he belongs. That's the 'benefit', that's the 'threat'. End of story.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 5:02 a.m.

I want to know when any of you have even talked to Coach Hoke????HHHmmmm but you all seem to know what he is thinking....hhhhmmmmm Maybe you could give me some lottery numbers???

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:52 a.m.

Terry I didn't mean to indicate you said Hoke was celebrating this behavior. In fact, I believe you said the opposite. I was refering to other poster's comments.

Terry Star21

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:43 a.m. me a statement where I said Hoke was celebrating (or approved)'re confused. I said, 'he (Hoke) wouldn't like this' and 'with his (Hoke's) guidance, this young man will straighten out'... I know coach Hoke will not be happy at all about this - nor should he. I don't understand at all why so many so called 'fans', 'supporters' or "Michigan men' are laughing and joking about this. This is not Michigan (behavior).......

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 11:02 p.m.

come on people. this is what 17 year old do. they act like kids. oh they are kids. so give him a break. right wrong or what ever. this is his way of saying how he feels. tell me some of you did not do something like this when you were 17. i sure did some crazy stuff. this is what it is expressing how he feels. for me it is fine enjoy.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 10:29 p.m.

Let's hope the kid is not a pyromaniac.

Pat Ardner

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 9:54 p.m.

I'm a Michigan fan but think it rather childish for Tuley-Tillman to burn the OSU papers. When will he grow up, hopefully before he comes to Michigan!

Terry Star21

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:47 a.m.

Thank you !

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 9:44 p.m.

For me, this was more of a statement from this Michigan Man that other coaches will not come in after our teammates. We are a family, we are strong, and we are unified. So take the late sales pitch down the road to East Lansing or Penn State like you did last year.

Tue, May 29, 2012 : 11:25 p.m.

This kid is the second coming of Tailor Lewdone. No class. He'll be playing FCS football after 2 years.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 11:04 a.m.

Where is the edit button? Make that, "You are correct".

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 11:01 a.m.

Terry, I see your point. I think your correct. I was happy to see this young man's commitment to his team. This is being viewed by some as an insult to another institution or even an act to put focus on himself. Young men need to be mindful of this. I do not think this was anything more than a demonstration of complete commitment. He needs to know we are committed to him as fans as well. As he grows, he will learn that a Michigan Man's word is more than enough.

Angela Tuley

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 5:12 a.m.

Well this was not just one letter...many many letters come and now maybe they will get the hint to leave him alone because he is true to THE BLUE!!!

Terry Star21

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:45 a.m. might have the most logical rational - to discourage other coaches, this I like ! (but still do not approve of that behavior).....

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 5:49 p.m.

I've got no problem whatsoever with what this kid did. It's the greatest rivalry in all of sport, and this kid...or should I say this Michigan Man...gets it. Go Blue!

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 9:33 p.m.

Absolutely outstanding ! Let me see if I can rationalize the incident for a couple of you. The kid did a childish thing in a kids game and environment.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 7 p.m.

Terry, I understand and respect where you're coming from. However, I feel like this young man made this public for a few reasons. First, he wanted to emphatically let Wolverine nation know where he stands. Secondly, he may have wanted to burn all bridges with Meyer and put an end to his recruitment and/or hounding of him. Finally, he may have wanted to send a message to his (hopefully) future teammate McCray that he wasn't budging from his commitment and wanted him to remain similarly firm. Either way, I understand and fully respect your point, but for my money I like him drawing a line in the sand with Meyer and the Bucks. It's not something I'd like to see every time from every recruit, but in this case I thought it was pretty cool.

Terry Star21

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 6:37 p.m.

az....I'm always behind you and don't criticize what he did, but this stuff should be kept private - not public. This isn't Michigan behavior....

Angela Tuley

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 5:33 p.m.

You want to know what is really funny, someone actually saying this could be a that is funny! My sn was using this t get a fire started in the fire pit in the back yard....People always have something dumb to say about things they know nothing about....How much d you want to bet that whoever made that comment is not being recruited by anyone??? Probably doesn't even know how to play football...but guess what, Logan Tuley-Tillman as that covered! While you are speculating, my baby will be graduating early AND playing football at the most awesome university ever! Those who stay will become champions....and Isay thse that make it there are already champions!!!

Thu, May 31, 2012 : 8:21 a.m.

Let me explain. Recruits often de-commit. Even I as a Michigan Man, I must admit that Urban Meyer is a great recruiter from a great university. The chances are strong that he just may find himself wearing scarlet and grey in a year or two. So it is Michigan who I suspect may have encouraged him to do this in an attempt to keep Ohio St away from showing what is one of the best places to play and attend school at in the country.

Tue, May 29, 2012 : 11:23 p.m.

Angela - Funny that Terry Starstruck is welcoming you to the Michigan family. He's got nothing to do with the university, is not an alum but thinks that he's Dave Brandon. Your son should have stayed home and played at Illinois. Suddenly he doesn't like his hometown of Peoria so your family is moving to SE lower Michigan? Ridiculous lack of loyalty to his team. Where's the threat?

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 6:57 p.m.

Way to go LTT u r a true Michigan Man no matter what anyone says that pic was priceless! Also thank you Angela for raising a young man that has his head on straight it seems that's a hard thing for parents to do now a days. Also tell LTT all the fans love him and can't wait to see him in the maize & blue! He's a legend and hasn't played a down yet! GO BLUE

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 5:57 p.m.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen any of the player"s folks comment so much on news stories, I'm sure the secretive UM will be thrilled about this.

congratulations Angela, You sound like a very proud parent as you should be. Good luck to your son.

Angela Tuley

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 4:57 a.m.

@rightmind250 it desn't matter what you say...I can show you my degrees, but I don't have to prove anything to you...As I said before, Logan has worked very hard to get to where he is at...I don't believe in putting children down and always believe in lifting them up to reach their highest potential, but don't worry you might make staight A's one day and graduate early at 17, so don't give up! You can do it too! Like I said, those that make it there are already champions, so maybe you will receive a full scholarship to attend one of the most prestigious schools in The United States also!

Michigan Man

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 7:15 p.m.

Ms. Tuley - I am a Michigan Man living in Illinois. Great news that your son will be at U of M. All in Ann Arbor will take really good care of Logan! He is in excellent hands. Lets caravan to the M games! We have a really nice crowd of loyal Michigan Football fans here in Illinois - One such, Robert Thompson (LB) - Tri-Captain - All Big Ten here in the Chicago area.

Terry Star21

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 6:35 p.m.

Hello Angela...(we're not 100% on you're validation, we've been tricked before on here) However, I am going to believe you're real. First, yes it is all in good fun - no problem. Second, I have strong feelings about photo's like this and releasing to the media - that's not right. This stuff should be kept private. It may sound picky, but it's not what Michigan players do. Coach Hoke will educate your son and others on things like this. Thirdly, we welcome your son, you and your family to the 'Michigan Family' and are very proud to have all of you ! WELCOME !

"On Friday, Ohio State began targeting a Michigan football commit by formally offering 2013 four-star linebacker Mike McCray." ??? Is there a noun missing from sentence or is it just poor structure?? ...formally offering...?? Formally offering what? Full scholarship? Half? Room and books? Is there ANY proof reading at or do they skip that with sports related articles figuring the audience won't catch the errors.

Basic Bob

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 3:47 p.m.

If it doesn't work out, he can always transfer to Grand Valley, Toledo, Rice, Memphis, Tulsa, Ball State,.... With his lack of impulse control, I'm pretty sure he can cross any serious schools off the list.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 6:01 p.m.

Lack of impulse control seems to be a familial trait.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 12:25 p.m.

I like this guy. He's playing for the wrong team, but I like him. Everyone on here is so anal, he's probably 17, and loves the rivalry. Meyers sent him a letter, that's all. Are the Urban mind games working? LOL! Go Bucks!

James Russell

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 10:36 a.m.

Urban Meyer sure doesn't abide by traditional recruiting values, we have to target OSU's verbals in a very big way and hit him where it hurts most and take one of his 4-5 star recruits.

Blue Marker

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 3:35 p.m.

rightmind, that's the same argument you tried to make on another article. it's no more valid here than it is there. thanks

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 1:23 p.m.

Halter, That is laughable. No team in the country (including every oversigning team in the SEC) has run off more recruits than Hoke and Michigan, 13 in just over one year.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 11:30 a.m.

Urban is notoriously dirty...and OSU is going to have their hands full controlling him. Some of OSUs players and recruits have already bailed.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 4:12 a.m.

That is ridiculously childish...maybe he is not "michigan man" material eh???

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 4:17 p.m.

But you knew that Urban Meyer was childish when you hired him.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 2:34 p.m.

Logan did what he had to do to stay away from the sex offenders, since they already have his address.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 11:37 a.m.

1. He is still a kid, albeit big, and this comes with the territory. 2. I think it would be more "childish" if he came up with a username of "michiganbetterthanu" and went to a Columbus news site and commented about another team's recruits. More so if it were an adult man or woman.

You realize Devin Gardner did the same thing a few years back, right ? Anyway, relax.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 2:38 a.m.

Some are taking this a bit too seriously, it seems. Before overreacting, zoom in closely on the picture and you'll see are friends in Ohio couldn't even spell "Peoria" correctly. This whole thing is absolutely priceless and take it at face value, laugh and move on. I'm sure the OSU recruits will be doing this soon enough.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 2:39 a.m.

The irony in my post is I used "are" instead of "our".

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 2:03 a.m.

Junk mail is often used as fire-starter. In this case it will also add fuel the great rivalry between the Meeeechigan Wolverines and tsio. Hail!

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 1:32 a.m.

Is this an example of a panicky OSU program? At best it is "bush league" and speaks volumes about what OSU is thinking about with its current recruits.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 1:01 a.m.

This may become a recruiting violation on Michigan's part.

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 2:02 p.m.

Ted, could you please check to see if it is on tOSU's current list of violations?

Terry Star21

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 6:20 p.m.

Terry Star21

Sat, May 26, 2012 : 11:37 p.m.

I don't like this, and I believe Coach Hoke will not either.... it's not professional - it's not Michigan....there can be no excuse this recruit is a kid...other schools, other players do this and count days of victories or make outrageous predictions/statements - they're not Michigan. Bet he learns a bold lesson that prevents things like this happening again, and will become a better person under Hoke's guidance. MgoBlueForTim...Logan will become Michigan !

Terry I am a Buckeye and while I do find some humor in this I have to agree w/ you. The Only thing I see this doing is motivating the Bucks perhaps a little more. Not like they need it but we will take it.

Billy Bob Schwartz

Mon, May 28, 2012 : 9:47 p.m.

Terry...Maybe the quesion is this: at what point does a high school kid become a Michigan Man? If this kind of high schoolish behavior is not the way a Michigan Man behaves, isn't that why the coaches and others are there, to share the traditions and expectations with these young men (and women) in regard to the U of M? What might be okay behavior in a young man who has yet to enter the University may not be okay in a Michigan student. So I think it's a good idea to enjoy the humor of the situation, and wait for the coaches and students to teach the proper way of acting once you are a Michigan student. Or should high school recruits call the coach whenever they get the urge to do something and clear it in advance? Of course not.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 10:01 p.m.

So I guess not saying the name of the university down south is proper? it is all in fun Hoke is cracking up about this.

Terry Star21

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 6:17 p.m., I understand the fun part, and that's all good, but this should be kept private...Michigan players should not be 'bragging or posting things like this in public. Period.

Hoke probably laughed and shrugged his shoulders indifferently. Her burned a recruitment letter from OSU, not the American flag. Get a grip. It's not disrespectful. It's funny. If tomorrow an OSU commit burns a Michigan letter, it would be funny too. That's what a rivalry is about. It's all good fun.

Sun, May 27, 2012 : 2:01 a.m.

Terry, seriously? Come on. As a Michigan alum, I think this is hilarious! He knows about what happened the other day McCray, he's just making a statement that this class is solid. I mean, what was he supposed to do with it? Keep it in a scrapbook? It's going in the in trash either way, so might as well use it as a little propaganda.
