Michigan football quarterback recruit Kevin Sousa says, 'I'll do whatever they tell me to do'

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Kevin Sousa, a 6-foot-4, 217-pound quarterback from Lake Nona High School who said earlier this week he'll accept an offer to play for the Michigan football team, has played organized football for just two years but was considered one of the top players in the Orlando area.

Sousa says he'll do what it takes to improve, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

"I really want to learn the game first and keep developing as a quarterback," Sousa said. "Whenever I'm able to play, then I'll be ready to play. They told me that every QB has a shot at being the starter."

And if it ever came down to playing other positions at Michigan, Sousa said, "I'll do whatever they tell me to do."

3 and out Good humor. I like the one about Harbaugh in 2011. That one had me laughing out loud for at least 6 seconds!

Work on taking snaps under center and your footwork Kid... Coach Harbaugh loves your size but you need to get the fundamentals down in order to play QB in his pro style offense in 011.

In High School your QB is the best player on the team.Every college team takes alot of QB'S,and then converts them to other postions on the team. But its no secert Rich loves QB'S.

Jarhead, I spent a career in the Air Force and you should know as a Marine that nobody has to complain about what you said there are drones flying over us that decide if your thoughts are acceptable. Sousa is trying to say the right things he just wants to be accepted and you can't blame the kid for that it's dog eat dog and at least he understands that. I love college football and this is why. At the point Sousa is at he'll be happy to carry water if he's asked and that's what I love about college ball. In pro ball the attitude is, I'll do whatever I'm asked as long as the money is right. Ya gotta love the purity of college ball although there are some that would disagree with my theory.

Somebody must have complained about my previous blog as it is missing. I must have offended some one. If so I appologize. I'll stand by my statements also. When RR first came he said that every position is up for grabs to those that earn it. And that is done during practice, and during training. I'm all for redshirting. Last year Tate came in the spring and started because Robinson didn't get here till August. Tate knew the playbook somewhat better, about 75% midway through the year. Denard only about 50%, and it showed. But maybe they should have redshirted them and Sheridan should have started. And by that formula, Sheridan should start this year also. He is a fifth year senior after all. Tate has RR's confidence. In the spring game Tate had the 2nd Off against the 1st Def. Denard had the 1st offense against the 2nd defense. The talk about Devon Gardner is not from the coaches, it's from fans who see a 5* and get all gooey about what they think he's gonna do. Happens every year. Quite frankly I was glad to see him play like a freshman usually does and calm the fans down. Devon did have a nice touch on his passes though. Sheridan is listed as the third QB, and Devon should RS. Hopefully as long as Tate and Denard stay healthy, it will remain that way. I was not blasting Dantonio. I said it would not be smart to sit a player who is "head and tails" better than the others merely because he is a freshman. A good portion of the quote was missing though. "I really want to learn the game first and keep developing as a quarterback. Whenever I'm able to play then I'll be ready to play." "I'll do whatever they tell me to do." Sounds a little different dosen't it? Hypothetically speaking now; if a person was to write what was writen in the blog before, it makes it sound like RR guaranteed him a starting position and that the kid is delusional and thinks he deserves it. Or, Hypothetically speaking again, maybe that person is just mad that a freshman should ever start. And I really don't get leaping to "fibbing" to the player. It certainly dosen't show in Kevin's statements. Once again, a nice story about a new recruit and his excitment has needlessly been trashed.

Jarhead, I took the exact quote. Every QB has a shot at being the starter. I'll stand by my original statement. Either RR is not happy with what he has, or he is fibbing. Forcier started the majority of games last year, played the majority of the time. Forcier should have RR's confidence by now... but apparently he doesn't, because there is a lot of discussion that Gardner may start. With the game experience Forcier picked up last year, he should be above Gardner. The new kid coming in this year shouldn't be in the equation. And a kid that isn't showing up till next year... shouldn't even have an opportunity to look at starting his freshman year. Forcier and Gardner should be on year 3 of starting... and the kid you have this year should be 2 years into the system. And based on my example... Dantonio came out and said that Cousins is his starting QB this year. I'm pretty sure that the new QB recruit (Conner Cook) at MSU understands he doesn't have a shot at being the starter his freshman year based on that statement. So again.. what did I say that was completely out of line or makes me foolish? I questioned that a 3-star QB stated he will have a shot at being a QB... when there are (2) 3 year players, and at least (1) year player ahead of him? If he was Pryer at OSU... I could see RR telling him he could start as a freshman... but Sousa is not Pryer, he's a 3 star player.

Jarhead... The interesting part... I'm betting Dantanio stated something to the effect of... Hey Maxwell, unless you are heads and tails above everyone else, you are going to redshirt this year... and we'll keep your eligibility available later. Oh wait... yep, that's what happened. Maxwell red-shirted last year. I'm pretty sure that Maxwell last year understood he wasn't going to start over Cousins or Nichols. I bet the new kid this year, realizes that he will red-shirt this year... freeing him up to be in line his junior/senior year. But maybe I'm just foolish.

Tressel also has a QB so far in his 2011 class. He had one in his 2010 class and one in his 2009 class. I wonder what he told them to get them to come there. Maybe it was somethting like this, "Look kid, you ain't got a chance. You're just going to ride the pine and we will use you like a tackling dummy in practice." Think so? No? Neither do I. Dantonio also recruited one QB for year in the last 3 years. Hmmmm. Must be something going on here.

Actually I think it was Andy Minery (again with the spelling?)that made that statement.

Yes, if you have mobile QBs you recruit a true Qb every year. Actually you recruit several, 'cause in high school they play both ways and if they played the spread in high school they are atheletes. Lends themselves well to recievers and D backs. I remember Jay Remearsma (spelling?) came as a QB, so did several others, and I think it was he who said,"There were like 11 Qbs showed up and I looked around and saw their skills and said to myslf, You ain't playing Quarterback here. So I switched to tight end". And a good coach will tell everyone that every position is open at the beginning of the year. Now go earn it! People say that RR didn't use his talent. Funny-that was the knock on Lloyd also. Lloyd was very loyal to his seniors first. Nothing wrong with that, just a safe way to do business.

It's good that RR is stocking the cupboard with his style QB's cause in this high flying, running style of quarterbacking you need a stockpile. This whole thing operates on precise rhythm which requires maturity as in this is year 3. It will be interesting to see where we're at. Year 4 and 5 should be awesome under RR.

Cutty240 beat me to this, but let's not let "height-weight inflation" of players start to creep in again. Sousa is 6-2 @ most. Look at his Rivals.com profile: http://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/player-Kevin-Sousa-105267 Also, I saw a video of him and the 6-2 looks correct. He looks like he has a lot of ability, so it will be interesting to see how he develops. I still believe Devon Gardner will be "the man" once all the smoke clears. But, Denard and Tate still have a lot of upside too. We should be in good shape at QB for a while now. If only we could upgrade other positions too: like OL, RB, LB, S to name a few.

Looks like this QB Kevin Sousa has already grew 2 inches said the post early today.Went from 6'2" to 6'4" in a matter of hours, but the good thing his weight stayed the same.Barwis is already making a difference, hee, hee

"Whenever I'm able to play, then I'll be ready to play. They told me that every QB has a shot at being the starter." So either RR doesn't like any of his QBs, or he is fibbing. I'm sure that Carr told Mallet that he had a chance to uproot Henne... or that Tressel told recruits they had a shot over Pryor.

Per Robbie's request (even though I wasn't on his list...) "I'll do whatever they tell me to do" = I won't squeal when they exceed the allowed time limit.

I wish this kid well, but I don't see him outshining Gardner, Robinson, or Forcier. Alright, 3 and Out, GoblueMark, Lemansblue, and Nobowl, turn this into an attack on Rich Rodriguez. Ready...set..go!
