Michigan football adds to 2013 class with commit from two-star CB Channing Stribling
And then there were 22.
Michigan football's top-ranked 2013 recruiting class got a bit larger Thursday when coach Brady Hoke received a commitment from Butler (N.C.) High School cornerback Channing Stribling.
Stribling confirmed the news via his personal Twitter account.
"I have committed to the University of Michigan #GOBLUEEE," he wrote.
The news was originally reported late Thursday night by the Michigan football recruiting site "Tremendous."
Stribling is an unranked prospect, according to Rivals.com. Scout.com, meanwhile, pegs him as a two-star player.
Listed as an "athlete" by most services, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Stribling is said to be targeted by Michigan as a cornerback. He also plays wide receiver for his high school team, the same squad that produced former Michigan standout defensive back Jamar Adams.
Per Rivals.com, Stribling's only other Football Bowl Subdivision came from Ball State -- Hoke's alma mater and former employer.
An under-the-radar prospect, Stribling currently sits as the lowest-rated member of Michigan's 22-man recruiting haul -- which currently sits atop both Rivals' and Scout's national team team rankings list. He reportedly received an offer on Wednesday after attending Michigan's on-site summer football camp.
Presently, Michigan has three other defensive back pledges for the 2013 class. Including four-star safety Dymonte Thomas, four-star defensive back Jourdan Lewis and four-star cornerback Gareon Conley.

This kid will probably be the best player in the over-hyped class. Where's the threat?

Now Michigan won't have enough spots left to get the three 5 star players they truly wanted! This seems like perhaps a very bad decision. Do they even have any more openings left for new scholarship recruits?

When you watch film on a guy like this you wonder how can they give a guy like this two stars. Tall and fast and athletic- He didn't attend enough of their camps? Stribler will probably end up in the NFL- like Boise State's two 1st round NFL picks in 2012, both 2 star guy out of high schools. Great scholarship offer by Hoke.

I definitely agree with several commenters here, that the coaches saw something special about this kid that warranted their interest. Like A2's Drake Johnson, this selection won't look good on paper - however, something special this way comes. Welcome to the Michigan program Channing and family. This is one that I think will end up being a great recruit by his freshmen year if the weight he puts on makes his faster. That is the only complaint on him. He runs a 4.6, but is only 165 pounds.

As I've said before, this coaching staff has given me no reason to doubt their ability to evaluate talent. I'll trust their judgment even over my own desires to have a team of nothing but 4 and 5 stars.

WOTS is that he was fantastic at camp, they pulled him right out of DB drills, took him to Hoke's office and offered him. 6'2" corners don't grow on trees and he still has his senior season left to play, I'd be willing to bet that he blows up in the rankings. You have to trust that this staff knows what they're seeing/doing, with regard to talent evaluation. I know I do.

Only 2 stars, oh my god ! If he ain't 4 or 5 stars he can't be no good, what in god's name has come across our coaching staff, time to tar and feather the coaches. Unless the hand of old age has suddenly taken away our coaches ability to rationalize a quality prospect this particular kid has peaked my interest. We know that our coaches can coach at their various positions but can they pick a diamond in the rough. This article is not descriptive about what occurred to the coaches to pick this particular recruit especially since either no one wanted him or knew about him and his ability, which is it? This sounds like a chapter out of michigan states recruitment book.

It is actually a great recruiting effort. I think the staff knows exactly what they are doing. He is obviously talented, and with hard work can put pressure on the other players. Every class should allow at least one recruit to be potential related. This young man could be the one who pushes the other guys to play harder... I really like this.

Geez ted are you in tune here, you missed my point completely. My point is again, I'm looking forward to observing the coaches develop two star talent because most fans are so jazzed up over all the 4 star talent. My point is, I believe there is plenty of talent that may not have all t he stars next to their names.

Lighten up my friend. Unless you have first hand knowledge of this kid and evaluate as many players as the coaching staff does, let's trust their judgement.

Hailmary, it's not all about stars. This is a good pick-up. The coaches know more about a recruit then some scouting system assigning stars to players.

We are all still waiting to see how 5 star recruits like Will Campbell and Devin Gardner are working out. Hey, I like them both and really hope they can step up. In Hoke we trust!

Also heard that he has great speed and that college conditioning will make him bigger and more explosive in time. I like it. I trust the coaching staff knows what they are doing. I am sure this kid also has a lot of character and will be hard worker. (pretty sure there will be plenty of boo birds regarding this recruit.) GO BLUE!!
