Michigan football team's 2013 and 2014 Big Ten schedules released

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Michigan football fans won't be seeing Bucky Badger any time soon.

Big Ten conference schedules for the 2013 and 2014 seasons released by the league today do not include matchups between the Wolverines and Wisconsin. The teams are not playing in the current schedule cycle, meaning they won't meet again until 2015.

Purdue and Illinois are the other team left off Michigan's 2013 and 2014 schedules, which includes games against Legends Division rivals Michigan State, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern. The Wolverines' crossover game with Ohio State is a protected rivalry matchup that will be played each year.

Penn State and Indiana are the other Leaders Division teams on Michigan's schedule for both 2013 and 2014.

The 2013 conference schedule looks like this: vs. Minnesota (Oct. 5), at Penn State (Oct. 12), vs. Indiana (Oct. 19), at Michigan State (Nov. 2), vs. Nebraska (Nov. 9), at Northwestern (Nov. 16), at Iowa (Nov. 23) and vs. Ohio State (Nov. 30).

In 2014: at Indiana (Sept. 27), vs. Michigan State (Oct. 11), at Minnesota (Oct. 18), vs. Penn State (Oct. 25), vs. Iowa (Nov. 1), at Nebraska (Nov. 8), vs. Northwestern (Nov. 22) and at Ohio State (Nov. 29).

In his Big Ten Blog on ESPN.com, Adam Rittenberg writes that the four-year hiatus each team will have from one conference opponent were "unavoidable given the current scheduling setup."

Iowa and Illinois will not play each other for six straight years. Other teams that will have a four-year break between games includes Indiana and Nebraska, Michigan State and Penn State, Minnesota and Ohio State, and Northwestern and Purdue.

"That's just the mathematics of it," Big Ten senior associate commissioner Mark Rudner told Rittenberg. "It's not ideal, but hopefully moving forward it can be addressed."

Congradulation Since you have given control of this site to the "couple" of Theo/Terry you have had to delete every other post but one. It appears aa.com is playing favorites. Why is it that no comments are allowed that challenge the Theo-Terry connection? Is it censorship or protection? Or is this personal? I look forward to an explanation. To quote 'All the Presidents Men', "Why is everybody suddenly so shy?"

Thinking back, it seems to me that every year there's been some reason for fans to gripe about the schedule. And I'd bet it's the same for all the fans in the Big Ten Conference. I will miss seeing Michigan take on the Badgers for so long, though. Lots of compensation for this: starting with the fact that the Wolverines are entering a new era where Brady Hoke - an actual competent and scandal-less coach: will be leading this team back to greatness. Other compensations include the novelty of Michigan playing Nebraska as a true worthy rival (instead of Nebraska as the team with the borrowed share of Michigan's national championship). And if it's correct that Michigan will play OSU at their excuse for a football stadium: this means Michigan will defeat that team to the South-Southeast at least once in the next 2 years on their own turf. Tressel's luck seems to be running out.

Schedule looks challenging, no doubt an 8-0 conference record for MgoBlue in 2013, w/ a conference title. Probably though tougher in 2014, looks more like a 8-0 record w/ a conference title. I wish Michigan Football was on the Stock Market, I would invest heavily and be able to buy all 84 suites for my friends Theo and Our Gang for the 2015 season.

Very good observation Mr. Terry Star - the osu team will be nothing more than a sad memory by those coming years. I say osu 2 - 6 conference record in 2013, 1-7 by 2014 - both probation from Bowl games. 2015, will be in the MAC - if accepted.

FYI - It's been 2,692 days (7 years, 137 days) since Michigan last beat Ohio State.

Or is it maybe 2,692 since osu played fair, without cheating or breaking rules. Just a rebuttal, in no means to be an insult to you. Thank you.

Not a Buckeye, sorry. I have no ties to either university. However, if you're going to throw stones from some high horse, better make sure you have the credentials to ride.

Kcin, its only a matter of timing. Extended practices versus knowingly playing 5 ineligible players for an entire season just to protect your national championship hopes, and lying to the NCAA about it? No contest. When the NCAA reaches its verdict, you Buckeye fans are going to have a really bad couple of years ahead of you.

ohio state will be so deep in problems/violations before the investigation is over, we might not ever see them again. The cheats in the Administration will have to fire the cheat head Coach to save the University. Great time to be a Wolverine, bad time to be a buckeye !

Michigan is the program on probation. Ohio State is not.

And O$U is and has been a program that chose to cheat to win. I'll take integrity....you can count days.

Don't not sound fair for all teams in the conference. This stinks!

This is why the 16-team "super-conference" won't work, and is why no one is making a real move in that direction. Twelve is the limit for a major football conference (you can buy the television rights to MAC games for pocket change as compared to the Big Ten). That said, the "mathematics" of the situation should prevent a six-year layoff. Certainly, each team will be subject to a four-year layoff with one opponent, but for the good of the conference six can and should be avoided.

And this is somehow better than a ten-team Big 10 playing a round-robin schedule?

What? We have to play Duh Ohio State two year in a row at that den of thieves?

Sorry about that. The 2013 schedule has been updated in this story. A note on the mgoblue schedule that DMoney referenced ... they currently list Illinois as the first Big Ten game of 2014. It's Indiana, according to the Big Ten release.
