By Kyle Meinke

As the nation turns its attention to the Michigan football team and its season opener against Alabama, the Wolverines are tightening up.

Freshmen such as Kyle Kalis will not be available at Michigan's media day.

Cleveland Plain Dealer

The program announced Monday it will not open its preseason practices to the media, as it did each week last year. Tuesday workouts were available for 15 minutes last year, both during preseason camp and the season itself.

Michigan also will not make incoming freshmen available for its team media day Aug. 12. They were available last year, as well as under former coach Rich Rodriguez.

The Wolverines open camp at 4 p.m. next Monday, and coach Brady Hoke is scheduled to address reporters after the workout.

This decision will NOT sell papers, or generate comments and tweets. Doesn't Hoke want tweets, comments, hits, blogs, viral posts, or Freshman saying stupid things to the media? he has his priorities all screwed up!

Too much has been made of practices, anyway. The only thing that concerns me if one of the players high on the depth sustains a significant injury. What can you see in 15 minutes? It doesn't matter which QB threw more accurately in practice, etc, etc, etc.

As much as I love to see frequent updates on the Fall Camp progress from media, I applaud this move by Hoke. Michigan has a tough opener and what a better way to prepare for this opener than to eliminate media distraction and focus on the schemes and fundamentals needed to defeat Bama and rivals without fear of tipping the hat so to speak to them. Go Blue!!

plus he doesn't want some sneaky "reporter" from The Crimson White showing up and spying on them.
