Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson among Heisman Trophy favorites for 2011

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is one of the top three candidates to capture the 2011 Heisman Trophy, according to Lindy's Sports.

Robinson, who finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting as a sophomore, is listed with 5-to-1 odds, according to an online sports book (please, no wagering). Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck is the 3-to-1 favorite and Robinson and South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore are both at 5-to-1.

Robinson was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year after becoming the first player in NCAA history to pass for 2,500 yards and rush for 1,500 yards in a single season.

Hey Tater - Haven't you left town yet to follow your " Kang?" I thought we true Michigan fans had heard the last of you. Those of us who haven't had blinders on the three dismal seasons were sure you'd be gone to Bodunkville with Rich Rod. Thank God we finally had an AD who had enough common sense to admit RR was a BAD hire and got rid of him. Having said that I will never mention Rodriguez again. Brady Hoke will be great for Michigan. He GETS IT. He is Michigan. He said " Yes " before any money was mentioned - can you see any other coach doing that? NO. The players love him and we will get back to a system that will work in the Big 10 and kids who actually want to play in the NFL ( which is what it is actually all about for them ) will once again come to Michigan. The defensive recruits are all ready starting to commit. That shows the correct focus. You have to be able to stop somebody on defense - the offense will take care of itself - it is fine. Although we could use a stud running back in the Chris Perry mode. But that will come. Hail to Michigan!!!

Be for real. If he is a preseason Heisman favorite, that means he won't win or probably even be a serious candidate by the end of the season. The people who are talked up preseason almost never win it anymore. Plus, as someone else said, a lot of people are writing off Michigan this season. So, how does Denard have a shot at the Heisman if Michigan won't even contend for the Bo division? And for once, I actually agree with a tater football comment, at least with regards to the plays Michigan will run. If Hoke and Borges are going to try to make Denard be more of a passer and less of a runner, his Heisman chances go down the drown along with our season.

Thanks to the previous three years most people are writing UM out of contending for the big ten title. Which is definitely not a surprise. But i think that this team will turn a few heads this fall and be a pleasant surprise. I would expect to see a decent team that is going to steadily improve as the season goes on as the new offense and defense set in. It amazes me how the team seemed to get worse game by game last year, how the defense got worse each of the three years. Incredible. But this year with a heisman candidate QB, improved defense, improved fundamentals, improved offense (Yes, offense), and finally a much improved coaching staff, id say UM could walk away with a solid season. which includes a good bowl game and nothing to be embarrassed about. Probably not a big ten title this year, but the future looks promising. Go blue.

Hmmm... Let me get this straight....The Michigan football team has a quarterback that is one of the favorites to make a run at the Heisman, but the football team itself is NOT one of the favorites to make a run at the Big Ten championship. Something sounds a little off..... Remember you heard it here first: When Nebraska comes to town on Nov.19, the Wolves and Huskers wiil be playing for the right to play in this years BT championship game. One of the greatest programs in college football has been written off much too quickly..........

"We're also lucky that RR has the class to not pull on Hoke what LC did on him and "advise" everyone to transfer." And the first mention of the WCiMFH goes to . . . the president of the MCC. Gotta love MCC logic. Yes, Mallett having been ignored by the new incoming head coach (Unlike Hoke and Robinson) and with the WCiMFH bent on implementing an offense that did not fit Mallett's skill set, Coach Carr, according to the MCC, was supposed to tell Mallett to do something that clearly was not in Mallett's best interest. Sorry, but honorable people don't do that. But it does sound like something the WCiMFH might do. By the way, tater, how do you know what the WCiMFH told or didn't tell Robinson? Good Night and Good Luck

Denard won't sniff the Heisman running the plays they ran this spring. We're extremely lucky he is even staying. We're also lucky that RR has the class to not pull on Hoke what LC did on him and "advise" everyone to transfer.

One guy retired and went on to be elected into the College Football Hall of Fame. The WCiMFH went on to be the idol of the MCC and was fired from his last job because he coached Michigan to the worst bowl game loss ever. Coach Carr gave heartfelt advice and your guy gave nothing. When you have nothing, you have nothing to offer, the motto of the WCiMFH (and the MCC).

you people that take away from a spring game amaze me. RR and class? Really? LC being honest with Mallett shows a lack of class? Just stop with all of the RR sympathy and excuses, he's gone, it over, and UM is starting to look like UM again. Carr- 122-40, one NC, five BT titles. RR- 15-22, violations, never finished better than 7th in the BT, and nationally embarrassed UM more than once.

Denard is a great player, but whether he has a shot at the Heisman will depend on his ability to pick up the new offensive schemes of Al Borges. He will need to depend more on the pass this year and less on the run. So, I expect he won't put up the same kind of wild numbers. That would be fine so long as he is much more efficient - meaning completing a higher % of his passes with a lot less interceptions and fumbles. I certainly wouldn't bet against him. But, Andrew Luck probably is going to get much of the media attention right out of the gate. We'll see if he stumbles now that his QB mentor Jim Harbaugh is gone.

Good luck this year Denard, I figure if you're in the running for the Heisman, that means you're having a great season and in turn so is the team. I would love to see that! I got a special feeling about the team this year, my instincts are eerily good most of the time. I predict that our Defense is gonna be a lot more special than people think and will be a unit that improves greatly as the season matures. We'll shall see.

Great. It would be 10 times more fun if Denard can beat that JT and TP combo fair and square in the same year.

that would require that JT play fair and square, which we know isn't the case.

He won't get a chance, because after the NCAA makes its ruling against Ohio, there will be no JT/TP combo.
