Michigan receiver Darryl Stonum spent 3 days in Washtenaw County jail in June

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Darryl Stonum, a junior wide receiver on the Michigan football team, was jailed for three nights in the Washtenaw County Jail last month, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Stonum was jailed for multiple probation violations while on probation for operating a vehicle while visibly impaired in September 2008. Stonum served his time June 4-7.

He won't comment because everything is becoming apparent to him now, slowly but surely. There are many of us UofM fans that still don't can't accept the truth that RR is a bad hire. All of the talk About that our offense will be good this year and our Defense will surprise many. This is complete bull-malarkey to have this mind-set and RR's always had a history of bad-apple players and the "RR Lover's" know it! I may not know who will be our next great coach but I know who's not one. This kid needs to grow up and get serious help for his own sake besides the football program.

Announcer, Thanks for letting me know that I don't totally irk everyone on this website. In all fairness, I would like to see UM do well every week (except for MSU week), because it makes the Big Ten brand better. I am still waiting to hear Tater's take on this kid. Tater seems to have been able to hit the other blog sites... for instance, here is his take on George Perles from MLive. The part I like is that Tater believes that it is his job to judge Spartan Nation... "Perles is one of maybe five Spartans I won't ever say anything bad about. If today's version of the Spartans and their fans had even half as much class as Perles, I wouldn't have to be here all the time reminding Spartan fans of Sparty Shortcomings." Based on Tater's self proclaimed superior morality... I really would like to hear his take on Stonum.

Sounds like another case of a kid having a great chance in life to prove himself,he has failed.

TheAnnouncerMan007 said "You are trying to support a program that is not worth supporting." You call yourself a Michigan football fan? Suffice to say, we don't need you.

First, let's get it out of the way, I bleed blue. I am a proud U-M supporter. But the football program is hard to get behind. Yelonian, you are dead on. I appreciate your candor and I am being serious. If folks are going to blog & bash other programs (MSU in the example you give) then by all means, when the shoe is on the other foot the folks that spew it had better be able to take it. And if those folks have opinions on other programs, then let's hear their take when our program is in the gutter. Everyone deserves a second chance. Agreed. But when the young person ruins their second chance, I lose all respect for them. Actually, it is their third in this case. Forget the trouble with the law. He also was given a scholarship to one of the most prestigious Universities in the country. @freind12. Please, do not be naive and dress this up by saying: "You would have never seen an immediate comment if at all from Carr or Bo". You are trying to support a program that is not worth supporting. You are attempting to facilitate the shortcomings that RR has and has always had.......Go do research. It is all there. Actually friend12, you ~may~ be right. We would have NEVER heard from Lloyd or Bo because their fine young men would have NEVER done something as ridiculous as the young men we have on campus now. A 9-3 or a 10-2 season does not look so bad now does it? To all of the boosters that cried and complained about Lloyd, be careful what you ask for.

To RR bashers, wait until the program comments on this. You would have never seen an immediate comment if at all from Carr or Bo. This is something all of them tended to handle internally and quietly to protect the pricy of the student. I would be surprised if the program says anything about internal discipline in this case.

Blue Marker: I don't want to disappoint you so I figured I would weigh in. There is something more disturbing about this than the Winston/fraternity story. They are similar in that both kids were given second chances. Where they differ is whether coaches should've known what was happening and intervened. Dantonio couldn't know Winston and the other players would be so boneheaded. The guys for whom Rather Hall was a second offense were kicked off the team. But Dantonio could not be expected to see that coming. With Stonum, ask yourself this: How could be miss at least 9 alcohol tests and multiple probabation meetings, over a more than two-month period, and not have the coaches know? UM athletics has many people hanging around with little to do other than keep tabs on the athletes. It's unbelievable that Stonum could misbehave for so long and so often without someone in the athletic department knowing. To me, the ignorance on the part of the staff is the true scandal here.

jarhead..."From May 15, 2009, through June 1, 2010, according to court records, he committed probation violations such as leaving the state without consent, failing to submit to random alcohol testing nine times in a 63-day span, failing to complete additional alcohol testing and failing to report for probation on multiple occasions"-freep pretty sure you hit the nail on the head. you don't skip a simple test if you know you're going to pass. but leaveing the state, and missing meetings with his p.o. is simply him snubbing his nose at the courts. he has some things to work out before he gets back on the field...

Back in high school when we were 16,17,18, we would pile into someone's car and go to a kegger at a farm. (Pharm party nowadays has a different meaning) If we got pulled over with beer in the car, the police would make us pour it out. So when I first read the article I thought "No biggie". But today we live in a no tolerance society. The real problem is Darryl missed some of his drug testing appointments and WHY? It sounds to me he has a drinking problem. Whether he plays or not I'd like to see him get help. The judge said the case is closed as far as the courts are concerned. But now he has to face the coaching staff and the university. This is obviously a team rule violation and it will be interesting to see what they intend to do with him. Because this is a "victimless misdemeanor crime", I'm really interested to what standard the university is going to hold him to.

Actually, you are hearing it from the Spartan crowd. There are certain people from the Potato Crowd that believe that all of MSU should be condemned forever, and bring this issue up during good articles regarding MSU. I personally have stated frequently, each kid deserves a second chance... and what he does with it is up to him. Winston blew it, and was booted. The swim kid from UM deserves a second chance. Now... this UM player blew his second chance. Is the Potato Man gonna step up and call for his ouster, or is hypocrisy going to reign supreme? I wouldn't have even commented, if the Tot hadn't made it his goal in life to bring up the Winston incident, once a week, for the last 10 months. If you have a complaint with the Spartans (myself included) coming over here and commenting... ask the Spud to refrain from visiting Spartan sites and spewing his same rhetoric. I wouldn't even have visited this site if it wasn't for the little fry.

Nothing excuses this behavior. I hope this kid learns some life lessons for his sake. However, after all the MSU / Glenn Winston stuff I don't expect to hear a thing from the Spartan crowd.

OK Tater... I would like to hear the rhetoric. This is a repeat offender. Drunk driver. Had to go back to court for violations. Appears he was taken back by the team. I'm guessing that there is outrage at UM for this. Why isn't RR kicking him off the team immediately. Or is drunk driving an acceptable crime at UM... since the kid on the swim team also was recently in trouble for this.
