Michigan regents sued over closed meeting on NCAA football investigation
A University of Michigan alumnus filed a lawsuit Thursday accusing the Michigan Board of Regents of violating the state Open Meetings Act when it met earlier this month in a closed meeting to discuss the NCAA investigation of the football program, The Detroit Free Press reported.
The suit was filed in Washtenaw County Circuit Court by Robert Davis, a 30-year-old Highland Park School Board member and 2002 graduate of Michigan. He asks for the minutes from the Feb. 3 meeting in his lawsuit.
The NCAA is looking into the Michigan football program because of allegations that it abused rules concerning practice time. The university also conducted an internal investigation.

friend12, Without actually knowing what was discussed in the meeting, we have no way of determining whether the Open Meetings Act was violated. By saying, "It definitely appears the board did violate it", you show a propensity for reaching a conclusion prior to having knowledge of the facts. Don't you think the Free Press would have initiated this action themselves if we already knew the entire story?

The central issue is not what motivated Mr. Davis to file suit but whether or not the regents violated the Open Meetings Act.

It should be noted that Mr. Davis graduated from UofM Dearborn, not UofM Ann Arbor. He is also attempting to gain reelection to the Highland Park School Board. This is an attempt at gaining campaign publicity while allowing the Free Press to further their agenda against the university.
