Michigan says Devin Gardner Facebook account that posted WR update isn't real

By Kyle Meinke

Backup quarterback Devin Gardner experimented at wide receiver for the Michigan football team this spring. This is known.

But the rumors he could make the move this fall -- or at least see part-time action there, while remaining Denard Robinson's No. 2 -- picked up steam Thursday afternoon when a Facebook account bearing Gardner's name posted: "Looks like imma catch them TD's this year. ... Just certain packages. Our wide out core is going to be really solid this year."

A Michigan spokesman, however, says the account is not run by Gardner.

"The Facebook account many have referred to as Devin Gardner’s and the quote/post attributed to him (regarding) catching touchdowns is not his account," the spokesman said in an email, after the post circulated on Twitter and local sports radio.

I really like the idea of having DG as a receiver. He looks like he as the build and athleticism to excel at that the position.

College football players are subject to so much of this nonsense, I don't think most people realize the pressures they experience on a daily basis. They have to watch where they go, how they act and what they say - as they are constantly targets. They have to resist the temptation of money, while watching others and their own university benefit. On the other hand, most receive scholarships (with the exception of spend money) and realize that they need to pay their dues with hard work and patience. I can guarantee you that those who wait, when it's all said and done are so grateful and proud of themselves. MgoBlueForTiM....proud of our football student athletes..

Nice catch Kyle... thanks for not running with this fake-story. The internet has become a cesspool of fraud. Its laughable that some radio stations and other media outlets just run with these stories without checking the facts first.
