NCAA bans eye black messages and wedge blocks from college football

By AnnArbor.com Staff

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Wedge blocks and eye black with messages will be banned in college football next season. And taunting penalties could cost teams points in 2011.

All three measures were approved by the NCAA on Thursday.

The organization's rules panel followed the NFL's lead by barring wedge blocks on kickoffs for safety reasons. Infractions will result in a 15-yard penalty from the spot of the foul or from the spot the kick returner was tackled if he is behind where the foul took place.

Beginning in 2011, the committee approved another proposal that will disallow touchdowns for taunting, if the foul occurs before the player scores.

Yea, I hate those wedgies... my buddies always sneak up behind me in a flag game and.... wait,.... what..., oh, wedge blocks, sorry.... never mind. I agree that personal preference messages are not kosher in a higher learning environment... hate to say it, but I think Tebow and a few others thought they were above everything else and really believed everyone wanted to hear their story.... duh, hello... everyone likes a good college story, but not a religious preference shown 27 times on a national broadcast.

Hey guys... I thought that was a true story about Tebow, it was on the sideline though not locker room, I told that story to my bar friends who broke up... fact is doesn't matter who posts the messages on the eye black, like a lot of 'unwanted advertised opinions', your gonna make some very bad enemies... glad they are keeping the plain eye back, enjoy seeing some of the 'D' players... look really scary!

Sunset...that story of Tebow was an internet lie. Too bad because I thougt it was kind of funny. I think the eye-black rule has as much to do with Pryor and his "Mike Vick" as it does Tebow.

I heard that Tebow tried to get all the other draftees to join him in prayer before his group began taking the Wonderlic test during this year's Scouting Combine. Someone told him to "shut the blank up" and the room dissolved in laughter. He's going to be a locker-room problem. I'm glad the NCAA finally banned Tebowing (messages on the eye-black patches). It was inappropriate. I don't bring air horns and pennants to church, he should keep his religion to himself.

Didn't see this coming, Tebow had some fan's whom despised his religious references in white on his eye black patches as others - you know it caught up with him a bit after graduation with some public. I never had a problem with it, always thought if you really believed in something a written sign has no harm - as long as you don't orate or taunt somebody. The taunting penalty is long overdue, it really gives a black eye to college football, as higher learning institutions. Ever notice (oh here come the naysayers) that Michigan Football players are the least taunters of all college football players, this is true - they have high morals taught to them by their great coach(es), teachers, and university. UM FB players - eye black gone..........UM FB players - will taunt no song.
