The Big Ten Network will have live coverage of Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman and athletic director Tom Osborne’s press conference beginning at 6 p.m., EDT today.

It will also be streamed on bigtennetwork.com.

Meanwhile, Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon issued a written statement regarding Nebraska's application for membership in the Big Ten:

"I can confirm that Nebraska has applied to the Big Ten Conference for membership. I can also confirm that the Big Ten has done its due diligence as it relates to Nebraska. I expect that an announcement will be forthcoming from the Big Ten in regard to Nebraska’s membership very soon."

bmaloy I guess you were absent for the press conference at Nebraska they are now a proud member of our great big 10 + 2 =12. This is a great day for our big 10 and an even greater day for Mich. Go ahead ask me why it's a greater day for Mich. as if you don't know. All fun aside I agree with azwolverine I like this 12 team package seems kind of healthy compared to what the Pac 10 is thinking about doing. Some of our habitual complainers see this as either a threat to Mich. or irresponsible of the big 10 or whatever their newest complaint is but on the other hand I think the big 10 has handled this in a very classy manner and if you listen (carefully) to Delaney this type of move (type) has been discussed and analyzed for some time unlike some of the irresponsible habitual complainer comments of these blogs. When it comes right down to it who am I to say we shouldn't move forward as in expand. Who am I to complain about anything our big 10 wants to do they've always entertained me well and with class. I've watched our great big 10 since I went to my first game at Mich stadium in 1955. I've been to several Rose Bowl games and in my opinion I've been entertained well and as I said with class. I'm behind this move 100% and that's based on many years as a participating fan and observer.

Is this reassurance that in 4 months the Big Ten won't announce that Nebraska actually ISN'T admitted to the Big Ten???

I believe there is still Big Ten expansion yet to happen. The Big Ten wants that East Coast television market, and so that means they either get Notre Dame, or a couple Big East Teams (Rutgers and either Pittsburgh or Connecticut) or maybe just Rutgers with Missouri. I don't believe Delaney has given up on Texas yet, and probably is competing against the Pac-10 over this weekend to broker a deal to get Texas and Texas A&M. I believe, if he pulls this "homerun" off, that will be enough to convince ND to join, with the inclusion of Missouri. So, in my opinion, it will be... 13.Texas, 14.Texas A&M, 15.Notre Dame and 16.Missouri OR 13.Notre Dame and and 14.Rutgers/Missouri OR 13.Rutgers and 14. Missouri/Pittsburth/Connecticut This train stops with no less than 14.

Great move by Nebraska to join the most stable conference. Am hoping that if there are more teams to come that it would be ND and Pittsburgh. No thanks to Missouri, but would love to have Kansas basketball in the conference.

It will be interesting to see what happens from here. Does it stay at 12 teams are move on to 16 teams? This will depend on what happens to the Big 12 early next week. If the Pac 10 gobbles up a bunch of the Big 12 schools, look for the Big 10 to follow suit. That's where it gets interesting. Who comes in after Nebraska? ND? Missouri? Pitt? Interesting how quiet the SEC has been about all this. If they have plans to expand, there's absolutely no sign of it.

It's done. I really like this move and would be quite happy if this was the only move the Big Ten made. Just because other conferences might be moving to 16 teams doesn't necessarily mean we have to. We now have an extremely solid 12 team conference that can compete with anyone on the football field. I can see a great Nebraska/Iowa rivalry brewing in the near future. I recall Hayden Fry's Iowa team upsetting Nebraska in the early '80's, which is the victory that put Iowa on the map as a football school. Now is the time that Michigan has to ensure that it's football program is in good hands and moving back to prominence because the bar in the conference (and the nation) has just been raised considerably and I would hate to see UM get left behind in this everchanging football world.
